France is very similar to the UK. You basically just trade a geographical advantage in Asia to boost your geographical advantage in the west. Having Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore and Malaysia will not help if you lack the troops to hold them. Even though French Indochina is limited, as long as you can secure a base in Thailand, your ability to hold the ground is secured in Asia-Pacific. For the European theatre, although being surrounded by 3 Axis powers is bad, you can more decisively take on the threats in the West. While North Africa is highly vulnerable, defending and working with allied troops to achieve strength in numbers have always been a key strategy for human wars here.

I do think that the UK is better off in the east tho cause they start off with a cruiser port while France's port is only level 1. Not that France is bad, but UK is easier. Also, when playing as the UK, Phibun suicides into Malaysia, so you can just force him into the water to get rid of him. You also start with a general (albeit not a very good one) that you can toss into Bangkok. I didn't have to build anything in the east besides one light infantry to defend Malaysia and one single cruiser until I stole Thailand and Hong Kong. Whereas in my France playthrough, I couldn't really use my navy to do anything, but by letting the UK do most of the work I could still steal Bangkok.

I assume that's the one you're referring to. Although, I don't really use the port. I just build a triple stacked medium with a general to attack Thailand. I use Guderian for that, he can single-handedly wipe out Axis in the east. That leaves the rest of my funds to go to fighting European Axis.

I actually often overkill in the west by sending too many generals lol. In my last playthrough I sent Guderian, Vatutin, Konev, Donitz, and Nimitz to the west while Rommel and Leeb were in the east, but I still finished off the west first. That time I won in 26 turns I think. I think if I commit a navy general in the east I could speed things up a bit.

Better to send too many than not enough 😋 I'm thinking I need a second navy general *Donitz*. I encountered a moment in a conquest where I wish I had another general to put on a naval unit.

My first navy general was Kuznetsov, and I kept him all the way until I sold him to get Donitz (with a Nimitz purchase a few years beforehand). If you don't have the medals, my "chef's recommendation" is to get Kuznetsov as a rental (so buy don't upgrade) cause he's got solid stars + skills. Two navy generals is always better than one!

I did, I just spent what I had on finishing upgrades on Nimitz lol. From 1997 to about 240.
