Generals used for this conquest: I put pretty much everyone on artillery except Goring, air power was the main tool used on offense with help from artillery. These generals could be substituted with other less powerfull ones and still be successfull, but general health always plays a major role.
I did not loose any general during the conquest not even the fairly weak npc that Iraq starts with.
Key concept is to not let your general fight alone, and get him out of the fight to rest in a city once he is hurt.
Goring and yamamoto provided the main air support,Montgomery would also be used if the other 2 were not available.Yamamoto does very decent damage with rockets too even though he is really used most often in other conquests as a navy admiral.
Tech level is 8 for artillery and 8 for tanks although I didnt use tanks much.Ion cannon low level around lvl 10 or so.Air tech is lvl 7 or so (just enough to get PMI motorized).
I have all money/steel/oil wonders built,I dont think it's practical to attempt to do aliens without these wonders already built.
Below is the starting Iraq economy, with only 128 gold you need to plan your expansion carefully and quickly increase your income.
In general any major mistake in the begining of the conquest means you should restart the game, because your income is simply too low to allow a recovery.
Below the tiny country of Iraq ,oil ressource is good, industrial production is level 3 allowing you to buid rockets, the airport barelly allows fighter strikes but these are all you need if you have an air general.
Unit wise you don't start with much, you can put a fast general on the lone field artillery and save your slower ones for the rockets.
The start of the Iraq game was pleasant, the aliens in this conquest give you a slight break at first and do not attack you immediatly,so use that time to get ready for the onslaught.
The main strategy was to capture Ankara (North-West)to immediatly improve the economy and then use that city as a springboard for Europe conquest, this was my offensive front.I tried conquering nuke producing cities as quickly as possible because building nukes can be very usefull in both defense and offense.Once Europe fall the game is essentially won,it will still be long, tedious and sometimes hard but Europe provides enough income and nukes to assure victory against the aliens. So the plan is taking Europe while defending anything else.
To the North-East lies Tehran which should be conquered after or at about the same time as Ankara.
I used Tehran as my static defense front to hold off the alien hordes from my backyard while I concentrated my main forces in the European conquest.
Tehran seen tremendous and relentless assaults from the aliens and I had to rotate a few generals because their health was getting low.
However if you can spare a 5 stars air general then the defense would be very strong, just make sure to only use the cheaper fighter strikes, these are the best value for the money when defending with an air general.
Below is a pic taken during the conquest of Europe,Goring is just tearing up aliens.Once the economy picked up and I could afford lots of fighter strikes I had total control of a large European section of the battlefield.
In the upper left corner, you can see Yamamoto he is on an artillery unit helping Goring. In reality his positioning at that location was probably a mistake because Yamamoto is also a 5 stars air general and could have been much better used in defending the Tehran static front where I had countless waves of aliens assaults to deal with.
Below, with enough money for fighter strikes Goring stops a large wave of counter attacking aliens without breaking much of a sweat. He even took the time to step out of town for 1 round to let the town build an extra artillery.
Note that It's important to retreat hurt troops and also generals to go rest and recover hp rather than letting them fight to the death.
Mid game sees lots of aliens assaults,at this stage of the game they often come in a group of half a dozen +.
On the Tehran static front (that front did not move untill Europe was conquered) Gorovov,Bao and the NPC Iraqui generals are strugling to defend.
I really needed an air general there.
Basically that's it,I defended the Tehran front, untill Europe was done, after that it really doesn't matter how you finish the game because now the aliens only have a single advantage: powerfull units, they loose their income advantage when they loose Europe.
Also their AI is pretty bad and you now have access to nukes. So yeah..game over,it just very tedious and takes a long time to complete.
Sweet phatty lewt reward:
Farming note:The industrial reward is massive, normally players have to trade medals for industry or do 1939 conquest over and over.It follows then that the idustrial reward can also be though of as free extra 420 medals for a total of 1000+ medal reward for a single alien conquest(normal reward 600 medal+industry worth 400 medals).Merchant trades industry roughly at an average of 100 medals for 9500 industry so 40,000/9,500=420
The other way to get industry would be to farm 1939.The max industry reward for that era is 2,000 which means it takes 20 of the 1939 conquests to get the same industrial reward as a single alien conquest.
To recap the strategy:
A/Use of static defense fronts and mobile offense.
B/Use air power on both fronts.
C/Retreat hurt troops to recover hps.
D/Win Europe if near,or any major income and nuke producing cities if starting in other parts if the world.
1/At the start of the game when money was tight all offense and defense were done from artillery. All owned cities have 1 field artillery stationed inside the town and at least 1 rocket stationed outside.
2/In the mid game all offense and defense can be done from air power+with artillery as support.Alien cities with strong anti-air will still need artillery assaults.
3/In the end game everything that is in range gets nuked. All cities that can produce nukes never stop doing so.
Ohh and I almost forgot the memes:
Players are ready mostly to do aliens when:
1/Their tech levels adequately high, specially for artilery.
2/Have good generals (dont need best just good) and of the right kind.
3/Have all the ressources/money wonders built.
4/know the tactics used (like art spam, air power),field art in town, rockets outside..
5/know the aliens stats (range and bonus ect..)
6/Apply good strategies (like focusing on Europe if possible, use of fronts..)
7/know alien AI behavior, kanue make an excellent thread describing these weakness that can be exploited.Alien units are extremely strong but alien AI is not very good at all.
