Your meatwall. It sucks at everything else but atleast what it does well is important.

Fighting-wise, it’s horrendous. But it’s important to hold cities, a strategy which is actually quite effective.

Their only real purpose is to be assured that your cities remain controlled, nothing more...

You can also have them hunt and kill off badly injured stray units, but that’s more of a case of you needing to get the most use out of them and not because they’re good at that job.

Another great tactic you can use is baiting a general to an area with two cities nearly destroyed cities three spaces apart. What you do is using one militia that runs back and forth between the two cities. Because the AI loves to attack the most vulnerable target it will almost always attack the militia-less city with 10 wall HP. You can keep doing this forever until your allies come along and wastes their time attacking the general. I used this against Davout when I did 14 turns HRE.

Cheap, Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. Excellent 5 Stars! Though i've never tried assigning my generals on them before, it is arguably the best base infantry units in the game! Cheap in cost, Cheap in pop, Cheap in damage, and Cheap in health, too cheap to die. It is your workhorse in a counterattack strategy against enemy mass spam, that is to mass spam them back to the gulags.

Mass militia spam isn’t really a great offensive strat imo because they’re too slow. I’d also reckon that you’ll be stalemating an enemy and not pushing them back. I’m not sure though since I’ve never tried it, but that’s definetly what happens if you attempt mass militia swarms in 1804.

They're my front-liners while the artilleries and some cavalries deal the massive damage to actually destroy the horde. Mass-militia alone doesn't pack the lethal punch, but you also gotta consider your pop limit.

Mass-militia alone doesn't pack the lethal punch, but you also gotta consider your pop limit. Don’t need a frontline when a cavalry gen is the frontline. Militia actually usually ends up behind my lines due to their slowness. It’s pretty much Blitzkrieg. Cavalry and artillery do all the work while infantry sweeps in to take cities and stuff.

10/10. Can capture (empty) and hold cites. Very handy in conquest.

Slightly slow so I rely on light infantry for taking cities. But surely the best meatshield. Whenever the militia I deploy gets into low health, I swing them around the enemy attacking my city to lower their morale too.

I use Milita to hold a city, but nothing else. Light Infantry to attack because of the extra move points. It is a good basic unit, but not something I stock up on.
