Was curious as to see how many of you are in the same position as I am:
Have you finished the game, but have yet to finish all domination battles and you are currently waiting for more medals?

Pretty much finished except for exercises. I'm at Hudson bay. This will be awhile to complete, because I think I need at least one pure infantry general and either another naval general or aircraft general. I have about 3k medals saved up atm.

Ouch that was a pretty tough mission. Arnold, Nimitz, Donitz, Yamashita and Mannerheim. Those are the generals that were essential for me clearing this mission Rundstedt is a good choice too, economically

So I have 1 of those 5..lol hahaha let me guess, Nimitz? Would Rundstedt be a decent substitution for Mannerheim? Just asking because I notice he is 300 medals cheaper. If I did that, I could use the rest of my medals to get Arnold. I also have Dowding, which could be helpful.

Hmm if you would like you dont have to get Arnold, Dowding can fill his spot for air abilities.

Only if he's a decent substitution, I don't mind selling him (if necessary) since he's not fully upgraded.

Need medals for gen rank upgrades, gen * upgrades, Rank colour upgrades, skill upgrades, empty skill slot purchases and to buy expensive specialised gens like Dönitz, Yamashita and so on.

Farthest I went in the game was the second Terrorist mission, having beaten all hard missions with the exception of UN 1 Hard. I expected Cold War to be a huge hassle, but it went pretty smoothly. I had also made various mistakes (Upgrading irrelevant skills, spending medals on resources, buying temporary generals that I would have to dismiss later when I could get much better generals instead, upgrading the rank of the generals with medals which is just wasting medals because the HP of any reasonably good general is sizable).
Now that I’m far more experienced than before (Have a clearer way about which generals I should get, what skills I should upgrade, etc), I feel like tackling this game again.
Yes, I’m aware of the ridiculous later exercises (The generals there feel like they came straight out of GPW) and that’s why I’m setting my goal as just completing all exercises. Thankfully I don’t have to beat all the challenges to get the last landmark.

Rundstedt is the only Infantry general that you should ever get, as he is the cheapest general that can give you the 3 essential Infantry skills: Infantry Leader, Raider and Guerrilla. Avoid anyone else. The silver and bronze generals aren’t enough, Yamashita and MacArthur are too expensive.

And after all that mod experience you will be sufficiently prepared to challenge 1980
