Omg, these are even worse than light artillery. Only use them when they are given

Its ability is actually bad too. Even worse than on Firebats. Fire hurts a lot and you don’t want to restrict movement space and you DEFINETLY don’t want to burn a city you’re about to run into.

Use carronades against naval units... but then again they would take a lot of damage in retaliation. Only use for them I can come up with

Don't really care about them but annoyed by their slow attacking time(How dumb is the enemy to not realize their attacking)

Tbh I find them handy for setting stubborn units on fire, for instance an enemy general refusing to budge from sieging your city. Otherwise I would not spawn them intentionally, and sacrifice a potentially beneficial tech investment

It requires only 4 food which is ideal for a spam.

It requires only 4 food which is ideal for a spam. But costs more money than Light Artillery which is usually the limiting factor to how much you can spam. And it requires a tech.

Tbh I'd imagine spamming would only be when you are confident about both your population and your economy. If both are secure it is likely that you would have reached the middle to the end of the game, and have enough means for spams to either nullify and neutralise the opponent's own spam, or clean up remaining resistance

Hence if you are considering spams, tech is the major limiting factor involved here

I’d say that spam gets relevant about 4-5 turns into the conquest when you have to defend. The thing is that spammed units that aren’t very useful should be used to suicidally attack the enemies or be used as cannon fodder. That’s much better than keeping a ton of injured militia/mortars around or just wastefully disbanding them after they get left in the dust. Spam shouldn’t actually give you a massive population overload unless you’re spamming stupid things like HMGs. Also tech and money is really just the same thing.

Submarines are still far and away the worst unit in this game
In the prequels, i rarely use the one range ships. Schooners were so much better
