There's always a stigma against support generals, like the weak Arnold in wc4 (made it up with air stats), and Timoshenko in wc4 too (weak but v fast). However, in this game Hindenburg may be equipped with defensive formation and artillery commander, but he dealt the highest amount of raw damage in my team before I fully upgraded Beseler. That is how he destoryed the Russian army so badly that ivanov killed himself. I wish the game looked a little more into generals historical traits. Darth Vader, I just realized, congratulations on joining the Engineering Corps team

Ivanov for damage, Beseler for mobility, and Hindenburg for defense.

I keep dithering between if the best is Besler or Hindenburg. But probably beseler End-game gen, less costly in books and less costly in silver medals+ more mobile and can be used from the get-go. But Hindenburg has got better potential.

But Hindenburg has got better potential. Yes, Beseler may have 1 more artillery ability (which doesn't matter), and they both have 85 battle ability at Marquess. The big difference is that Beseler's max title is King and Hindenburg's max title is Emperor.

How Beseler moves fast ? He starts out with Mountain Fighting so you can swap Plain for forest, thus removing the movement reduction for both. Ivanov can be mobile too, though, he has great damage output so people overlook the fact he can have forest and mountain fighting with 5 textbooks.

I find mountain fighting to be quite a useful skill especially against Armored Cars and HMGs. I prefer Ivanov because he is cheapest among the three , has insane attack and mobility is not that much issue at start and you can upgrade the mobility skill which isn't difficult since he helps a lot in conquests.

I believe Ivanov is only 20-30 medals cheaper (2-3 campaign missions or 15-30 daily missions). Mobility is actually very important as when grinding on conquests, cutting down on time can help your score and can save your grade. And as you might have noticed, it's a pain to get any unit other than some infantry unit types to cross jungles and mountains. This problem is amplified with early technology. And you don't get better technology in conquests, you get it from completing campaigns, so Ivanov's damage can help in campaigns, but the units are kind of weak and you don't often get lots of spam like in conquest, and Beseler's mobility can get you to some places where Ivanov can't. Although Ivanov is a great early game pick, I believe Beseler (or Ivanov if you want to swap Plain for Forest) is the best one for early game and Hindenburg is the best for late game (lots of resources). Ivanov definitely takes the cake for mid-game though, as you most likely won't have enough books to make Beseler the new Ivanov, and you definitely will not need Hindenburg, not have enough textbooks to make him an Ivanov. And about mountain fighting, cavalry and HMGs can't cross a lot of mountain tiles in a turn.

You aren't just going to stay near the mountains the whole campaign/conquest/history are you? You are going for the objective(s) in campaign/history and cities in conquest. Also, you get rewards based on your time in conquest and there are time restrictions in conquest/history, so you would also swap a skill for jungle fighting for the removal of both mountain and jungle movement restrictions. And a problem with this strategy is that no enemy unit is going to camp in the mountains with the enemy Ivanov. It's not a very reliable strategy, as also, artillery is meant for cracking cities and sinking ships. And killing armored units.
