sometimes you can attack the enemy without them attacking back. To get this to trigger, what you can do is attack the enemy and if you see the enemy attack back, pause the game and exit. join back and attack the enemy again. keep doing this until you don't see the enemy attack - this gives you free hits.
this can be used for campaign and conquest mode.

just wanted to say this doesn't work all the time, i think it works often when ships hit other ships of when arty hit other arty, cav/inf hit arty. you can get this to work with inf/cav hitting inf/cav but its rare

Why do this when you can just instant kill?Get tactic master for an op art general and the chances are pretty high even if it's a ranged unit

This only applies to units with Firepower or a similar skill OR if you attack them from places which are not within their range.
The last case is if a gen has the skill to avoid a counterattack.

Any unit with Bombard on them have a possibility of avoiding a counterattack. For example, arty units have them and Battleships have them. Subs are unique such that they absolutely will NOT receive counterattack. Directly dealing killing blow ignores counterattack. This works for ALL units. The exception is when the atk originally wasn't a killing blow, but certain skills added dmg which allowed for such a blow. For example, I believe for gen whose Pierce skill activates, thereby allowing a non-killing blow to become a killing blow, that gen will receive a counterattack. Similarly, if Rout on an Italian Redshirt triggers and causes a non-lethal blow to become a lethal blow, the unit will still receive counterattack.

The redshirts are my favorite infantry next to the old Guard. The double feature couple be better if they combined instead of 40 40 damage it could be 80. Then again the skill is called fast reload so I see why they did this. Plus Artillery have a good chance of destorying the enemy especially the Krupp cannons.

Like the hungerian Husser they have the ability of surprise which makes the enemy unable to counter attack. There could also be a chance your are not seeing it right because clicking the hour Glass twice makes rounds go by so fast it looks like the AI is or isn't counter attacking.

Maybe try to share a screen recording? Paste it on a Google Drive and enable link sharing. The Aboriginal Cav do have Victory Rush. The Ironclads and mortar do have Bombard. I don't see how Aboriginal inf can avoid a counterattack seeing as how they have March and the skill for constructing forts. What did you attack? Did you attack a fort with Spy effect, a Field Arty or a unit inflicted with Confusion?
