I was playing today and I noticed a icon pop up on turn 55. I thought, what was that? Then I remembered reading the UN 1 scenario thread and then I realized that that was the ion cannon. Did any of you get the ion cannon in conquest? Btw, I didn’t unlock Modern war yet. I used it on Moscow. Then I used it again on Peking although I can’t find the pic. It was weird.

You can build it in the Conquest in any era. Building your first lvl 4 Institute unlocks the Ion Cannon. Same goes for Modern War. Even if you had one available, you still need to build another to unlock it. |

But I didn’t build ANY lvl 4 Institutes. Does any cities have a lvl 4 Instute?

But I didn’t build ANY lvl 4 Institutes. Does any cities have a lvl 4 Instute? You need to have a high enough tech lvl which has a progression bar somewhere. Then, when you are prompted by a screen at the start of certain turns, it states your new tech lvl and unlocked facility upgrades. The more tech or science you accumulate, the faster the bar progresses. |

Ion cannon should be around lvl 8, IIRC.

The level 4 institute unlocks at level 7, along with missiles and level 3 airfields. It starts at level 1, and takes 6 turns to recharge. At level 8, the cannon upgrades itself, taking 1 less turn to recharge. At level 10, the cannon takes a meager 3 turns to recharge, which is really good for something that does more than 150 damage at any given time.

Yep, and its damage also increases by 20-ish every level (I remember its stats vaguely from the unlock APK files). Although, I wouldn't use the word "meagre" (rip Canadian spelling) in "meager 3 turns" cause meagre is more of a negative term lol. |

But regardless of my word choice, the cannon is pretty good at level 10 with +60 damage and a decent recharge rate, especially for the UN hard missions
