My mentality is that I'm 2300 posts past the final rank, so what I post no longer matters as much. It doesn't add to anything except my post count but there's no ranks. apart from ranks there is alot to be discussed here, ranks are finite, they will end sometime, but there are more issues which are more important compared to ranks (this is my opinion which I am not enforcing on anyone)

First on thread in wrong section: If you feel a thread is in the wrong section just message the moderator of that board about why you feel so and it will be reviewed and possibly moved if agreed on. As to the on topic: I originally wanted all threads in our forum to stay on topics but soon realized that the rule might be too rigid and that it would conflict with the goal set to be both informative and fun.So a compromise rule was reached and that is for all game knowledge threads to stay strictly focused and on topic more or less but that the general section would have leeway as long as the topic at hand was covered and answered. Blantantly derailing a thread before it was fully answered was never and still is not acceptable.
I invite all members to participate in shaping the forum policies by pointing out infractions or spam by using the [Report] feature found at the wheel cog. All reported posts are looked at and action is taken if the staff agree that a post is a blatant habitual violation (as opposed to the occasional slip)
Here is another thing a poster in the general board can do: if you are the OP (the original poster/thread owner) you can ask that your thread stays on topic, other posters in your thread will have to comply or else start their own thread elsewhere. If you are not the OP but would like to have more serious answers then start another thread that you want to explore with an [on topic only] tag.
It's a delicate balance, the forum goal is to have enough leeway for posters to have fun and post at will but at the same time not be disruptive to others.

locking threads is normally a rare occasion and only done for specific reasons,in this case the OP Singlemalt has gotten the feedback he needed but still the thread should stay open just in case some other posters in the future would want to comment or add to it,or else it would be frustrating for members that want to participate but can't because too many threads are locked. Also and to clarify the earlier statement: Game knowledge threads are the ones that involve game mechanics, how the game work, tips and guides ect.. And here is a pic of the [Report] button found in the "cog" wheel that's located in the upper right corner:

Ok it can be seen as whining but I think a 1 time honnest post is not that bad.. is it possible to get the forum a little bit more organized like it was a couple of months ago? topics at the right boards and try to stay on topic? Now every good/interestingthread is in the end a spam feast about which general is best, how many post you made or that vietnam has to be added.. Bla bla.. Also the same topic can be found at different boards.. I know its a lot of work and maybe you say whatever dude.. But now for me the time I invest in reading this forum is not worth it.. I am sure I am not the only 1.. thanks for listinening me out.. Now I will shut up and not complain anymore here or in any thread! I am in total agreement with singlemalt (as many of you already know). I have curtailed my participation because of it.

scottso you are free to come and go and participate or not.Of course I prefer you would.Know one thing though the staff and me work hard to make our site accessible and fun however we cannot do [everything] unless the membership itself gets involved. That means when there is an issue it should be pointed out and reported,we need specific examples of where things went wrong. As far as I can see,I have not received a single comment, private message, complaint, suggestion or idea about any issues or problem from you since registration, and yet you expect the forum to conform to your ideas somehow. This isn't how it works,in order to shape an idea one must be active and involved.

I'm not trying to get anyone to "conform" I'm just voicing an opinion with a different perspective.

I'm not trying to get anyone to "conform" I'm just voicing an opinion with a different perspective. There is no reason to not participate. If you don't want us saying anything off topic, simply say so. Problem solved.

I'm not trying to get anyone to "conform" I'm just voicing an opinion with a different perspective. Bud,I warmly welcome your opinion. There has been many changes done in every aspect of the forum that were initiated directly by regular members just like you,be it from the design, the games covered, the number of boards, the rules and much more.Heck even our forum banner was made by the membership. I am flexible in what we should or should not have in our community and more than willing to listen if someone is willing to talk. I have hundreds of private messages making suggestions,or pointing issues or giving different ideas on what to add what to modify, and some of them are problems and complaints too . I look at every issue that any member brings and act on it if needs be,sometimes right away sometimes later, but if there is a problem I need specifics. If something is said in a post that is offensive to you or you feel is not appropriate all I ask is to message me or the moderator in charge of that board or use the [Report] function as mentioned above explain in few words just what it is that is bothering you.

I wonder if my generation (300-499) made this problem worse Well floating irrelevant threads from months ago for no reason is probably one of the things that irritates singlemalt (no offense) I mean that in the most non-aggressive way possible
