Hi,I searched a bit and didn't found a similar topic so I made one. Especially in early game, gaining gold is a bit of an issue, you don't have good tech, good generals etc. and both conquests and campaigns can be harsh. Eventually you get money and a real general with your medals. What should you do at this point?Rush for an ambulance, weapon for your best general or upgrade your best generals skills?Maybe even change his skills. I'm stuck on this point,I don't want to start a looong conquest since I don't have any medal&good general, and I'm not sure if I should get a cavalry pistol for my Stonewall or upgrade Stonewall's skills. Any advice?

It's a fine dance between all three, actually. Besides the occasional bumps, the first few Campaign series are quite forgiving.
Jackson can carry you for quite a bit of distance so invest in his Tactics Master and potentially Edge. For the best skills on the best gens at this stage, lvl 2-3 should be sufficient. When you can, try to invest in an Ambulance for Jackson.
I think the following order of investment should be feasible: hiring an endgame gen -> investing in his best skills as well as some Rank and Nobility upgrades (minimally, a M General Rank) -> investing in an offensive / defensive item, if needed -> tech upgrades -> invest in your best gens' skills -> repeat the cycle.
When you are fairly familiar with the game's mechanics, try out History Mode. I believe that it is quite rewarding and much easier to complete when your tech lvls are lower. This is because the enemy's tech is a few levels better than your current troops' HP, Def and Atk states.
Following this, you'll be well prepared for normal Conquests. The 1861 Conquest era is fairly straightforward and short. Plus, you'll be able to earn rewards like Coins, Medals and Items from the Achievements so they are a good investment as well.
As to changing a gen's skills, do it if you're sure that he's an endgame gen who you want to invest heavily in. Use it on a skill which you are absolutely sure can or should be replaced. This can be done anytime you want.
For the EFC, since the Textbook updates only came when most of us had cleared a large part of the game, it naturally became an endgame mechanic to consider. It doesn't have to be this way if you're sure a skill should be changed and want to do so ASAP.

Thank you for all the answers Sir,I will try the history mode now.I made Stonewall a beastly general,he wiped out everything in my conquests. He and Beseler has ambulance wagon and I'm going for a pistol for Stonewall now.

So healing items or useful skills are more important than attack items.

Yes, but you need to test at least 20 times, best 100 times to get somewhere right info. if its +5-15dmg anyway it stack on long run. and sometimes help you to take city, not left 10hp left on defender +you can swap if have 2-3 same tier generals, if its hard enough mission/conq/history.
My opinion: spend medals for endgame medal generals, while money spend on items: first get as much healing items as possible(at least 4) and then go for tech upgrades/ upgrade generals(first get 1 strong gen, then tech, imo). Get 2-3 good cavs and get pistol(10/30) for cav. when you gonna have 2-3 art then you can get art quadron(10/30).
start conquest missions for 1 star countries (stop on first day - continue it when you'll have good enough generals)when your are in 3-5 campaign mission, I think I heard that enemy gonna have your upgrades, so if you start conquest with 2nd campaign upgrades and good gens it gonna be easier? (more skilled/older players can comfirm/cancel my theory)

These items improve a generals battle and unit specific abilities which in turn are a multiplier based on the unit's base stats. (light artillery, howitzer, etc) So, with better units and more attack upgrades (via Training), the additional damage from Art Quadrant will increase

The test was done on a field art positioned on a mixed tile (mountain+jungle) hitting the hunting cav with General Albert (Austro-Prussian War - History). Lvl 6 art expert increases damages by ~18% and reduces the damage range to within 6 points. My point is if you are short on coins, it's better to get a healing item than an attack item. With ambulance, you always get 30 hp back per round (unless your unit have near max hp). With Art Quadrant, you get a tiny fraction out of the increased 40 abilities per attack. The same goes with upgrading title, you only get a fraction of the increased abilities per attack. So upgrading from prince to emperor will only increase damages by a few points.

yes, the Art Quadrant adds exactly 10 % of the field artillery's base damage (I'm assuming +11-13 damage, depending on the unit level). Then the poor weapon->armor coefficient, the opposing general's high defense, and the (modified) atk_floating coefficient are applied, which make the result of ~ +5 dmg plausible. When you attack an empty city, you will get much more additional damage out of the Artillery Quadrant. But I guess that's not the point here, since I also prefer tactical versatility and unit mobility over raw damage. We have the tactics cards to deal loads of additional damage if we want to focus fire. What I like most about the items is that they can be put on different generals depending on the situation (or history mode scenario). And healing items might not be the best for artillery generals if you can prevent them from taking damage in the first place.
As for the thread starting question, I think you can get through the campaign (non challenge) without much investment in skill changes and optimized inventory. I usually keep 50-100k gold around so that I can quickly make purchases in case I need a specific item or skill or general to progress. Moltke and Jackson with an Ambulance and Ivanov or Beseler can take you a long way.
