I did Macmahon, then Beseler, then Lee(!). I swapped Battle Array for Tactics Master and maxed everything out. Amazing. Tunnel is useful, because I'll be using my inf to attack units in a city anyway, so why not do some dmg to the city? Next I am buying Hipper (superior to Beatty), then Straußenberg. Tunnel isn't useless but you want your general to have a terrain skill. Out of the remaining 4 Tunnel would be the first one to be sacrificed.

Nice! I just started out on ew6 too. I am trying all the ET games now. Most. I like all of them except GOG2, EW6:1804, and WC4.

Inf and Cavalry are normally on the front lines, and Inf is a trash damage dealer, so you want them as meatshields (which makes Macmahon OP) so it is normally vulnerable to enemy artillery fire, so alert is actually quite a good choice for most gens except for artillery gens. Lee, has got quite a good damage output, so like mine, I made him into a offensive machine, whilst putting alert for somekind of defence. I find ambush is really bad sometimes, as it only triggers when a milita or almost dead unit attacks, while alert is a certain reduction in damage not just a possibility. Thats why its quite a good skill, especially when playing challenge conquests of 1914 and 1917, where you will normally face trench warfare, and need meatshield gens to hold the line, while waiting for your offensive gens to punch a hole and advance. Also, is it just me, or why is cover like always triggering on my Stepanovic like 1/3 of the time when its only like lvl3, if so then its quite good, but idk. Ambush literally never triggers for my Macmahon and then it triggers 3x in a row for consecutive militia attacks (wtf?)

If I want a defensive gen, I'll get one.

Yeah, inf master is a good skill. Ambush I find is getting more and more redundant as it seems the game only allows it to trigger at the worst possible moments. Quite a pity that most of the inf units in the game aren't that great at dealing dmg (except for some special ones)
