For the campaign is the versatility of the team the key. 5 let's say 10 Navy missions are not enough to have an pure Admiral. Imo is it better, to be weak in 10 naval missions, than having in 70 missions an Admiral on land. A conquest team can be set up with specialized generals, depending on personal preference. IE: I never use a hq infantry general in conquests. Imo: Infantry has too bad units - cheap and nice for starting and learning. (infants of the war game). I play C - A - C/A Is there a conquest where an admiral instad a land general is recommended ? I don't think so, not in Europe. But why are infantry generals not recommended? Ok I admit that I am still new to the game. Is it because they deal less damage than artillery? or because they can't do range attack? or because they cant move after their killing the enemy like the cavalry? All of that actually. They are just very weak. They canβt hit from a distance like artillery or lower morale and move again like cavalry. Their only advantage is that they are omnipresent in campaigns whereas cavalry and artillery arenβt always. So having an infantry gen can help you out there. Not in conquests though.

First thing: EW4 is really good balanced, so many different stategies can be sucessfull. Every Unitgroup has its advantages. Artillery is the perfect supporter. Perfect to start an attack without getting any dammage (important !) Infantry always needs a second unit to conquer. I prefer cavalary - costs more - can more. In the campaign, you need sometimes a general on some starting units. Sakurako and later Lan are more than enough. The Fatima Light infantry is in most missions aviable. 3 hex distance.

Infantry can also build fortifications. The only problem is that fortifications cost as much as some units.
Trotsky, am I to tell by your setup you only use 3 generals most of the time?

I think a 3 general team of Golitsyin/ Scharnhorst/ /Ney gets you close to a good C/A/ C-A lineup.
If you add Sidney to that group you have a Victoria replacement.
