Hello, Everyone. So, I downloaded GOG3 as soon as it became free. I cleared most of 1939 with just the free gens, bought Leeb to help with Marita. Once I got to 1941 Eastern things got weird though. My plan had been to grind both sides, then get Guderian. However, this plan fell apart as I could not even beat the first allies mission with my free gens. As such, I was left with no choice but to purchase an allied general. My original thought was Rokossovsky, but I figured I needed an Infantry gen more, so I opted for Vasilevsky. I've now cleared much of the allied front, But have stalled completely at Typhoon for Axis. So, I have to ask... Did I make a mistake? Should I have tried to grind for Guderian instead?

I could have helped you with Defend the Moscow... Vasilevsky isn't a bad option, and yeah, you want an Axis gen (preferably Rundstedt or Rommel, who is superior to Guderian) for Typhoon. Crowd tactics is great, Street fighting I like, because there are so many buildings, although it is silver, but ace forces is not the best skill, although I still really like it.

@vonmanstein77, Honestly the best general you can get for allies 1941 eastern front is Vatutin. 720 medals but packs huge puch.

Durability is pretty much the same across a huge number of the generals in the game, for example did you know leopold of Belgium is more durable than kesselring, Rommel, and yamamoto if we don't take into account output. Also vatutins speed is a huge issue since there aren't any fast moving allies tank special forces and you'll want to reserve KV-6 for monty and roko.

Rommel packs a more powerful punch and Desert fighting is superior to anti Armor (I really don't like that skill, because I see no major difference in output), although Panzer Leader and Blitzkrieg are equal, Also Rommel has an Additional air star.

Let's say guderian without anti armor attacks a tank and deals 50 damage(very low estimate) with anti armor he'll get a boost of 12 damage! Instantly making it superior to desert fighting since unlike desert tiles Armor opponents are present throughout the whole game! And if guderian deals 80 damage(moderate estimate) he'll get an a boost of approximately 20 damage! Also since when are your tank gens sitting in an airport chipping opponents? Model does a better job at this.

@vonmanstein77 , Honestly the best general you can get for allies 1941 eastern front is Vatutin. 720 medals but packs huge puch. Yeah, but I figured I didn't need a tank general because Timoshenko is already pretty strong.

I beat the entirety of eastern front just using free gens, but I can see why people struggle with it. Personally, I think you shouldn't have bought Vasilevsky. He's a great defensive general, but most missions are not defense, so I think it's best to invest in a more offensive general, like Slim and MacArthur if you want an allied infantry general. Unfortunately, they don't unlock until Pacific. So if you really need an allied gen now, invest in Govorov or Montgomery/Rokossovsky/Vatutin. Honestly, Vatutin is extremely underrated. Sure he has bad mobility, but that's honestly not that big of an issue. You just have to keep your units constantly moving. Vatutin has survivability issues, but he actually has more survivability than Rommel, whose survivability I don't see anyone complaining about, except eeeeef ,. With Panzer leader and no blitzkrieg, Rommel wears himself down very quickly even if he arguably hits the hardest out of all the tank generals (except Manstein). Vatutin has desperate, so he can at least punish units for attacking him. Vatutin also hits pretty hard himself, despite being a pretty cheap general. He has both Tide of Iron and Anti-Armor, in addition to having +20 damage on tanks.
