[Note: I favor a 4 Inf, 1 Arch, 1 Cav, 2 Arty lineup or a 3-1-2-2 lineup]
From Friedrich “Fried Rice” Paulus 's template:
IAPs:
Genghis Khan - Useful, immediately makes any Cav gen other than Blucher obsolete, saving you medals. He is the best holder of the Bottle of Life, and Braveness is great. He doesn't have anything else in the way of skills, and his Industrial trait cannot be termed "great", although it certainly is decent. The biggest problem with him is that we are already getting Blucher no matter what. That's just the way it is. His Armor Master is too good to pass up. And if we want two cav guys, we already have Saladin for free, who will definitely do the job well enough. Plus, he is 750 medals behind the other two gens. However, If you want two cav gens and want to replace Saladin, you can get him.
Washington - Just get Nobunaga Oda , who has a large place in InfCom for his versatility and double debuff, while Washington is still amazing and an excellent damage dealer, he is less useful and overpriced (for InfCom). The thing is, you are spending money ona a guy arguably worse than Nobunaga. That isn't great. He does have the stats, but in the endgame he will be weaker because he doesn't have any debuffs. In addition, the one skill he has, Logistics, is weak on an archer because you want them firing first, not last. But seriously, Nobunaga exists and we only need one archer, so while Washington may be OP in other lineups, here he is not the best.
Napoleon - Ridiculously awesome. For one thing, he is a French Artillerist, meaning he gets a Super Mortar and he also gets Plunder in Industrial. In addition, Artillery is the second most important unit type in InfCom. Really expensive, though. The best thing about him is that he is really the only good artillery in the early game. You don't want to get Li Shimin, because he is way too expensive for an early game buy, and the others' stats leave much to be desired. IMO best holder of Mystellain.
Classical:
Leonidas - Worst gen in the game. Braveness isn't good if one shot can wipe you out. At least he is free and works for Daily missions. Grey stats alone make him unworthy.
Awakened Leonidas - Pretty good, Cover is always a solid skill, Bugle is fantastic, especially when paired with Braveness, and Braveness now actually works. Funny, give him a debuff and cover and suddenly he's good. I put him slightly above Beowulf, just because his skill synergy is off the charts. He won't be in your lineup just because we only have space for up to four infantry and even Awakened Leonidas can't be more than the sixth best. An general only for Arena.
Robin Hood - Your main Archer and Cav Killer until you get Moctezuma, But don't upgrade him to Medieval, because Cav Bonus is better than Longbow. Weak, pretty much strictly inferior to Catherine and Moctezuma, who are COIN gens I might add. Mulan/Nobunaga will take over his job once you reach Empire, and you should have left him behind long before that. I would say just not to upgrade him at all and let him get on with his life with Mickey Mouse.
Hannibal Barca - An okay gen, who will stay with you much of your early game, even through Empire. Granted, you should still keep him at Classical, because he would be a waste of medals, but you don't have enough generals to have much of a choice. All he will have is Assault expert, which is honestly awful. However much you may be tempted to upgrade him, DON'T. If you need a decent Cavalry, Saladin will come very soon.
Caesar - The best general in the game, he has ridiculously awesome skills, amazing tier 6 attributes, the Infantry IAP that is for free. He is the most expensive general in the game, so beware. 1000% buy him as your first general. Cure Master is pretty good, if ridiculously expensive, while Braveness is simply fantastic on a man as tanky as this. He should be the core of your team. Oh, and did I mention that he has a 30% rage regen boost? Defense Master is ignorable, and his industrial traits are okay, lets him essentially be a one man army. Even if you don't like Cure Master (and who doesn't? ), then he can use artifacts well with his rage. The best part? Commander is able to be used on him!
Attila - Unnecessary, because you have Saladin, with an awful active for InfCom. However, still very good for a relatively cheap price.
Alexander - Artillery with better melee and defense for less fort damage and HP. Best part is, Inf Commander works for him. Stonewall Jackson of EW5. All skills are decent, except his first, meaning he can equip a legendary item, and he gets Phanlax in Industrial and Medieval. Rage in Industrial is also good. Problem is he is super expensive
Huo Qubing - A weak Hannibal.
Cleopatra - A tankier, weaker Khalid, with great skills that let her be a good endgame gen.
Khalid - A frailer, more powerful Cleopatra, and all skills are always useful for an Artillerist. Every Arty gen is top-notch in this lineup.
Pachatuti - Stats are awful, but he starts as Medieval and has Inspiration...
Hua Mulan - Ahhh!!!! At least she's female.
Xerxes - I suppose he has Infantry Leader, but his stats. Well, he gets Plunder and is super cheap, but still, only for the endgame.
Spartacus - Xerxes 2.0
Beowulf - Literally worse than Leonidas. And Leonidas is the worst gen in the game, so where does that leave him?
Asoka - Hannibal with very slightly better stats and worse skills.
Medieval:
Richard - Alexander level, but cheaper and with better skills, Gugnir with him is overpowered. Still expensive, though, and has worse stats than Alex.
Charlemagne - I would call him a minor deity if there weren't actually "god generals." The second best general in the game. Just kidding, horrible even in a CavCom lineup, where does that leave him in InfCom? And for 2500 medals? I am laughing out of my nose.
Li Shimin - I would call him a minor deity if there weren't actually "god generals." The second best general in the game. Actually. Massive damage, even against non-fort units, and OP skills, except for his active. Do you know what that means? Legendary Items! Oh, I almost forgot. Chinese Artillery means Rocket Artillery! All around major enemies the earth starts to quake. It's like Mass Fire, except different. 2nd most expensive general in the game, though.
Edward - Leadership and nothing else? For 750 medals? No thank you. I want good generals that will help me. You get Saladin for free anyway.
Jebe - Awful 1st Passive, his other skills are great, and being a Mongol archer, he gets Mobility in Industrial and Empire. Very interesting setup there, and good stats comparable to Moctezuma. Way overpriced though, but if you want to pay 850 medals for an astounding mop, go right ahead. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID AND TRY TO REPLACE Nobunaga Oda WITH HIM!!!
Shingen - Hannibal stats and skills + 800 medal price = no deal. He doesn't even get Stomp, like Hannibal does!
Belisarius - For coins, he has great passives, decent stats, and a trash active. However, in like five minutes he'll be outclassed by Yoshitsune, who is literally 5000 gold less and better.
Moctezuma - Awesome archer, takes over the job of Robin Hood at this point. You start a curing party with Caesar, Mocte, Yi Sun Sin, and Blucher, and they will be invincible. Did I mention he only costs Coins?!
Henry the Lion - Awful. Plunder is good, everything else isn't. Good benchwarmer for a cheap price, but no good at literally anything else.
Wallace - Awesome abilities in Industrial, but no skills or stats to speak of.
Suryothai - Female, inspiration, Mahout, good, everything else, bad.
El Cid - Henry, but instead of Plunder, he gets +50% damage against archers. Look at that for a second. Against archers. If you like getting a Spanish Knight with a moustache killed, use him, and if you don't, then never use him ever.
Joan of Arc - Good skills, and cure master, but her other skills leave nothing to be desired. However, in Industrial she becomes completely OP with Cover and Braveness, although she will need InfCom with her, and she doesn't have that for a very long time.
Barbarossa - Clearly the best InfCom general. All skills are amazing and team-worthy, and he gets Teutonic order, very useful against other infantry and Cavalry, and in Industrial he gets Samurai, and although the damage reduction in terms of health is low in this game, the values are so high that it helps keep his damage very good. He is purple, meaning that he has good stats, but is relatively cheap. And, guess what? He's free!
Empire Age:
Nobunaga Oda - The best Archer in the game, with Mass Fire, and a double debuff. In addition, he can hold a legendary Item very well, because his Active is Trash. Really, you are just getting Mass Fire and Leadership. Only downside is the lack of an Anti-Cavalry Bonus in Industrial, but he can still be good with +50% to everything.
Yi-Sun-Sin - A possible replacement for Blucher and Nobunaga with his Armor Master and great passives. However, he has two major flaws. 1. Trash Abilities in Industrial, and 2. his stats are slightly worse than Nobunaga's.
