I personally use him as my second heavy tank general. His survivability as a heavy tank commander is second to none. On several occasions he suppressed remaining resistance while my Rommel was long dead. Yet as an Infantry general I prefer Yamashita. The reason is very simple. He is a Japanese general and it gives me a tactical plausibility. We don't have good cheap substitutions for Axis Infantry generals so I think that both can be used, especially in certain missions. What do you mean by a "tactical plausibility?"

But, I'm just as clueless as you are.

What do you mean by a "tactical plausibility?" Since I don't have Guderian I should use one of the remaining 1945 Pacific generals. The choice for land battles is rather limited as you see. So, since I have Yamashita I can use him as my Infantry General using Rundstedt as a tank Commander or leaving him behind altogether. Let's suppose I don't have Yamashita. Then I am almost forced to use Rundstedt as an Infantry general. And my 6th "native" general will be apparently weak for a land battle (in my case Yamamoto or Ozava).

BTW, the name "Pacific" campaign might be misleading at times since we fight all our major battles as Axis side on land. The last campaign, for example, is a battle for Dallas and Denver with some desert tiles for Rommel
