Hey guys, I will rank all of the generals as with previous games. This list will slightly change once the new update comes out. Also, I have learned my lesson with the Glory of Generals 3 skills guide. Don't pin my thread yet, its not even close to being done!
Furthermore, I will keep the short summaries here for every general to those who are lazy to read or click on the links to them, but the links will also contain much more detailed summary of the general, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses.
As always
Pink = Very Good
Turquoise (light blue) = Great (Very good but very expensive to boot/ there are superior options)
Green = Good (there are better ones but passable. Can buy for entertainment purposes)
Yellow = have some good qualities when given in a campaign, but not worth purchasing
Orange = Generally bad generals
Red = very bad, the worst of the worst generals given.
Iaps
Manstein - Best tank general in the game, usable on both sides, and since there are very few competent tankers in the game, he is a must buy (if you are willing to spend money that is).
Zhukov - The best artillery general in the game! Makes short work of early game. And since there are very few good axis artillery generals, he is a must buy.
Eisenhower - Honestly, an average infantry general. Only thing he brings to the table is his aura and stars. His output is ok but not great, his navy and air abilities are mediocre as well. You don't need him. Trust me.
Axis
Guderian - when has he ever been bad in an easytech game. Blitzkrieg reduces a lot of damage dealt, tide of iron allows him to essentially be a 6.5 star general, and anti armor is also an extremely useful skill to destroy tanks. His output is really high. Get him, get him, get him.
Rommel - second best axis tank general. Get him after Guderian, he is really good too. Also, the best general on heavy tanks, but also dies easily!
Rundstedt - despite horrible speed, he is an amazing infantry general that rewards you for attacking. You will heal instead of take damage on the offensive, and when he does attack, he'll barely take damage. Also, this guy in a bunker can wreck, I have seen his infantry leader skill trigger 4 times consecutively.
Donitz - the best naval general in the game. Has aura for improving the attack of surrounding ships, torpedo expert for massive output, and warning for reducing damage received significantly. If you don't have iaps, get Donitz. Otherwise, Nagumo is a better pick.
Leeb - the only non iap end game axis artillery general aside form Badoglio that is any good, and also the only axis artillery general with artillery leader. A must buy, but I personally think Badoglio is a better starting general. And his slow speed is also easily fixable with transports!
Yamashita - fast, strong, and very helpful during pacific war where the land battles are the most rage inducing. Get him!
Kesselring - best land air general in the game, has good movement and can fight well as a paratrooper. Awesome.
Yamamoto - best naval air general, and has highest output of any air general when attacking cities. He is a tad bit worse than Kesselring as he has no land ability whatsoever. If you are willing to sacrifice that, go for it. Otherwise, get Kesselring.
Mannerheim - good stars and decent skill set. Good but not as good as others. Still as the ai loves spamming special forces, specially infantry special forces, his skill set is good. But he has absolutely no survivability.
Nagumo - great axis naval general. Only really inferior to Donitz. But unless you have iaps, you don't need him.
Ushijima - good stars but literally all of his skills are useless. Absolute garbage.
Badoglio - great perks and you can use him to skyrocket your economy. Since there are always conveniently placed artillery units in missions, badoglio has will be a fantastic first general to purchase!
Hoth - Not as bad as Ushijima, but only has Armored Assualt as a useful skill. Meh
Terauchi - An ok hybrid if you are looking for one, tho his movement is trash.
Graziani - A good but not great tank general. Probably the 4th best axis tank general after Guderian, Rommel, and Rundstedt.
Kuribiyashi - terrible movement, otherwise would be a perfect general. Maybe even the second best infantry general after the update comes out. But I would get yamashita instead as Kuribayashi movement is pretty bad.
Model - An ok general I guess. Can defend cities very well, also has jungle fighting though at lvl 1 and 3 stars in infantry. At least he is free.
Yamaguchi - do you want a terrible air general for a lot of medals. Yamaguchi can provide you with that.
Student - A very good paratrooper general that deals high damage. However, when you are not using paratroopers, he still has good movement, infantry stars, and air ability. A good general.
Heinrici - Good stars and ok skills. Could be worth purchasing.
Ozawa - A free and strong navy general. Pretty awesome damage, especially when buffed by Donitz's aura.
Riccardi - A free naval general that has good stars and skills. But you get him too late for him to be too useful. Still a very good free general.
Messe - Kind of sucks but he is free so that makes up for it. Use Bock instead.
Bock - mediocre artillery general but a get panzer leader. Bock can take damage, replenish units for extremely cheap, and continue fighting. A solid free general that will get the job done till guderian.
Raider - A strong navy general that is cheap too. However, we already get enough navy generals for free so Raeder is a bad choice.
Kleist - Ok survivability, but terrible output. Don't bother.
Brauchitsch - a mediocre defensive artillery general. Don't bother, just save up for Badoglio.
Kuchler - vomits. Terrible skills and stars to complement. This guy sucks.
List - A great and easy to use tank general. Awesome.
Weichs - Hybrid version of List that is good on infantry but worse on tanks. You choose who is better.
Keitel - A solid artillery general for cheap that can defend cities well. Not a bad choice.
Nenonen - An arguably better artillery general than Keitel, up to you what you prefer, snow fighting vs urban warfare.
Allies
Patton - best allied tank general and also great at killing special forces spammed by the ai, but he also unlocked pretty late. Regardless, he is a must buy.
Marcarthur - Many people say he is the best free to play general. I actually agree. Macarthur is fast, hard hitting, and has good survivability. Amazing general that is also not unlocked too late in the game.
Montgomery - Ace forces is worthless, but lvl 2 mechanist and panzer leader is nice. However, you can get buy without him in the campaigns and he is worse than rokossosvky on kv6, hence he is green. De Gaulle - Good stars, but mediocre skill set. Way overpriced imo, get someone else.
Govorov - the best non iap artillery general in the game. Stars are extremely good, skills are extremely good, and you should get him just towards the end as chuikov is a good alternative.
Rokossovsky - ok early game, but easily one of the best tank general towards the end of the game, second to only Patton. I like him overall.
Nimitz - Allied Donitz, a must buy as his aura is amazing.
Vasilevsky - Good stars, but garbage skill. A horrible buy.
Dowding - A good first general, a good land general as he has good stars and paratrooper, also has carpet bombing and dive bombing which are very good for land air generals. However at sea, he is significantly worse than Halsey due to the lack of Air Force Cluster and Sea Scout. In short,
Blue on Land,
Green at Sea.
Mountbatten - Good in combat, but you don't need him. Get Nimitz and use Cunningham.
Konev - Garbage. Terrible skills, awful movement, just no. Even voronov is way better, and he is like 300 medals. May even be the worst general price performer in the game.
Vatutin - Very good average output, but also slow, can't crit, and lacks panzer leader. He starts really good but declines a bit in quality, but is still good towards the end. I will use Timoshenko and Rokossovsky instead, but Vatutin is good too, especially as an early game gen.
Bradley - A decent infantry general, with decent movement and skills. I think he is better than Clark personally.
Clark - Take away plunder supplies and he is very slow and mediocre. Plunder supplies alone can't save you, sorry Clark.
Slim - A 5 star infantry general with guerilla and reserve. Go for it, you are making the right choice! Plus he has Bruchminati meme value
Tassigny - imo guerilla and fire suppression do cancel each other out, so he is slightly worse than Slim. Very slightly tho.
Alexander - ok for a free general in africa, but meh everywhere else.
Halsey - A good and cheap air craft general that does a lot of damage. Dowding is a better land general due to infantry ability, carpet bombing, dive bombing, and paratrooper. As dive bombing + an airport can spam out demoralizing effects, Dowding ultimately rules the continental air force. But at sea surrounded by carriers, Halsey is much stronger.
Green on Land,
Purple at Sea.
Chuikov - Dare I say, the Stonewall Jackson of this game. Free and very very good.
Leclerc - A solid tank general for free, good on heavy tanks but will lose his value as time goes on.
Timoshenko - Solid tank general for free.
Arnold - Good carrier general for free but his damage is pretty meh.
Cunningham - Solid free and good navy general.
Malinovsky - 4.5 infantry stars anywhere on land, 5.5 infantry stars in city. For such a cheap price tag, he is a pretty amazing infantry general, and the quality difference between him and vasilevsky is barely noticeable. Buy him if you have the slots, he is a beast.
Voronov - A very good artillery general. But we already get Chuikov for free, Malinovsky is needed due to the lack of a good soviet infantry general, and not really usable in any other campaigns.
Simonds - *spits out tea* There are so many good allied artillery generals, why are axis ones so bad easytech? Anyway, this guy is a monster and imo stronger than Voronov, but Voronov unlocks earlier.
Gamelin - seems overpowered. Park him inside of a city, and he can generate tons of wealth. Has anyone used this guy before, because he could be potentially broken?
Spraunce - A very overpowered naval general with 5.5 navy stars of output at sea, potentially 8.5 with a buff from Nimitz. Op.
