The idea to create a decent form of multilayer is in the air. It would be a great step forward if done correctly, to say the truth. I would love to see, for example, EW6 1914 conquests with real players instead of AI. Since ET games are turn-based games I believe it possible to create something like this: you make your turn as Serbia, save the game and another player who plays as Bulgaria loads this save and makes his moves.
Or in GoG3 conquest each player can control his own army group. But I fail to see how this could be done in EW5. It looks more like Invasion with real teams instead of a random-picked generals. As one one comedian said:

Suriyothai can probably make her way into CavCom now, I see her replacing Edward. Mulan also looks promising as well. Beowulf not so much.
Hopefully it won't become as disastrous as the GoG2 arena. IMO the arenas filled with hackers is one of the two main reasons that ruined the game.

My main concern with the buffed generals is that if they will retain their cheap upgrading cost as a grey general. |

My opinion that Blue generals are the most cost-effective ones. They are close to purple generals but upgrading prices are twice as low.

Also while not featured in the post buff leonidas and South American inca guy are also there when you squint at the arena achievements besides the dark amulet.

Suriyothat and beuwolf have purple like stats while mulan has blue stats so I think that's the variables here. Blue stats and purple stats. |
