Joy. I finally Perfect Cleared 1945 Pacific War. This has been one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played so far so I thought I’d give a review plus some stuff I wish I knew earlier and I couldn't find online.
I started on 11th of Feb so it took me about a month or so to get here. In comparison, I have played the original Glory of Generals + Pacific as well as World Conqueror 3 & 4 but this has definitely been the most enjoyable and for those wondering if this game is Grindy (which I was), compared to all the other titles, I think this has been the easiest. With not much more to do, I decided to join this board and post my general thoughts.
Stuff I liked the most –
The fact that you had limited units which made everything more tactical was a really nice change and probably my favorite.
The fact that you could not customize your generals.
The Special Forces adds a completely new dimension and allows for multiple playstyles which is nice.
You have some choices between which generals to choose depending on your playstyle.
Stuff I wish I knew / Might help someone new –
The Allies Campaign is by far my favourite of the two. I do not remember any specific mission giving me -TOO- much trouble unlike the Axis one. Perfect Clearing them was not too difficult but a few stand out –
Coral Sea Campaign – This was fun as it was the only time in both campaigns, I had to build costal forts.
Operation Compass – Imo the hardest mission on the Allies side, but even then, it isn’t harder than 5 or 6 on the Axis side.
Burma Campaign – The is your de-facto DPS check and if you can perfect clear this the rest of Pacific 45 are easy.
Special Forces Commentary (That I took Ranked IMO of order of importance)
VI – KV6
V – Katyusha
I personally think these two are the most important Special Forces for the Allies. The KV6 completely outclasses the T28 and the Katyusha completely outclasses the M12-GMC so I wouldn’t bother with anything else.
III – Cossack Calvary
I think maxing Cossacks is important as extra damage to infantry with the added 60% attacking again after annihilating the enemy bonus is amazing. You should also be using your infantry to be killing infantry most of the time as they don’t stand up against tanks)
IV – KV2
I chose the KV2 over the ARL because it does a bit more damage, but I think either one here does not make a huge difference. I also did not max this because I did not really put much focus on Medium Tanks but having at least something for Mediums is important.
II – NVKD
I could have probably gotten this to III just so it looked prettier. I just needed an Anti-Tank for my Infantry General in case he had to take on a tank. NVKD because its special ability is better than Irish Guards.
I did use the Engineering Troops as well as the Airborne Troops, but I did not see any point in upgrading them. Heck, the Airborne specials are only for you to paradrop and then you want the Special Force to die so you can put something better. Never bothered with the Mortar or Anti-Air in the campaign.
General Choices that I made –
I got Vatutin first. You can quite easily perfect clear the first few theatres with the free generals. No regrets here. Imo he is the best F2P KV6 user. Basically, (In Pacific 45) he will one-shot any infantry without Special Forces if you have Tech 6 and VI KV6. On top of that he has Anti-Armor to destroy Armor.
I never bothered with a 2nd tank General as Timoshenko was usually enough. Other options you can consider imo would be Patton if you like playing with Medium Tanks (I don’t) because Blitzkrieg is a Medium Tank Ability.
I think Montgomery is not worth the Medals (Just spend it on an Axis General) as Machinist is pointless if you put him on a Heavy since your Heavy with the KV6 should not be getting hit and Ace Forces is even more pointless as Armor Tech should be a priority. In fact, I would get Roko over Montgomery but even then Vatutin & Patton are clearly miles ahead.
I got Vasilevsky next. I have slight Soviet Bias so I bought him, I’m not going to lie. But he is probably the best defender for cities and at the time I got him, my Infantry Tech was under-leveled so I needed Ace Forces. I don’t regret getting him as there are certain missions (especially on the Allies side) where you need to hold onto cities for X amount of turns. Coral Sea comes to mind.
Your other options include MacArthur who is probably the best all-rounded attacking Infantry General of either side. I never took him as I do not have a heavy Infantry playstyle, I prefer Arty & Tanks, but he is another good choice.
I eventually got Clark last even though it is not shown in the photo because of Amphibious he was also a general in Western 44 and I needed him for a couple of missions You can also consider Slim who is basically MacArthur lite since he is a general in Pacific 45.
I then got Govorov. I think for Western 44. I wish I got him earlier. He is so much better than Chuikov, who is in turn so much better than the next best Arty on the Allies side. I guess you can get Voronov if you play with 3 Arty Generals.
I got Halsey for Pacific 45 because I think Air Force Cluster is the best F2P Aura. Also he is cheap. No regrets here. I don’t like Downing just because Halsey is just better and more versatile. In my opinion, the skills that Downing has are bad because you will use more Air Force on a carrier then in an airport as money is usually spent on replenishing units. Arnold is a great 2nd Option. Novikov is another great Cheap option because Soviet Bias.
I realized now I did not get a Navy general because Cunningham was enough. So apparently, I guess you don’t need one. Nimitz is probably the best because of the aura but the medals can be spent elsewhere. Mountbatten I guess is the next best/budget option. Also, Kuznetsov just because Soviet.
My Normal Set-Up
I would always put Vatutin on a Heavy Tank with KV6, Govorov on a Heavy Arty with Katyusha and Vasilevsky with Cossack Calvary.
Then depending on the Map and theatre, for Western 44 I would go Clark and LeClrec and then Halsey, Chuikov (If the map had a 2nd Heavy Arty), Timoshenko in that order and for Pacific 45 I would go Halsey, Arnold (If the map had a 2nd Aircraft Carrier), Cunningham, Chuikov (see above), Timoshenko.
Axis Campaign
I found the Axis Campaign long. Probably because most of the Axis missions also have more turns. Too many missions stand out, but these are the more memorable ones (hardest imo) -
Operation Typhoon – How are you meant to get to Kashira in 7 turns at that stage especially while you are still new to the game. I need to go around one objective and then come back for it again ….
Battle of Singapore – Nightmare.
East Indies Campaign – Even worse Nightmare. The was the only mission I had to actually watch youtube to figure out. Side note - You can watch youtube for any specific mission walkthrough.
Battle of Coral Sea – Nightmare till I figured out you can just put Yamashita with a da90/53 on the island with the premade Costal Arty. Also, the most lucked based out of all the missions. Its not even funny, if Fletcher decides to move towards you its easy, if not you can try and try and you won’t get it.
Return to Stalingrad – See Operation Typhoon but worse.
Battle of Hawaii – The Mirror of the Allies DPS Check. But with Boats. Of which you have no special forces. Joy.
Battle of Los Angeles – I found this to be harder than Battle of North America. No idea how I perfectly cleared this. Probably a fluke. Another nightmare and the last mission I perfectly cleared.
Special Forces Commentary (That I took Ranked IMO of order of importance)
VI – Maus.
Heavy Tanks are the most important Unit. You have no choice.
VI – Panther
V – Elefant
Medium Tanks are important for Axis because Guderian is better on the Medium Tank. I made the mistake of maxing Karl because I thought range was important. Do not make the same mistake I did and get just Elefant. The anti-armor and chance to attack again is SO good.
III – Viking
II – Grenadier
Your standard Anti-Infantry and Anti-Tank. Viking because it also does extra damage to Arty and Grenadier because it reduces the damage you take from tanks since you are always going to use it to attack tanks. I would also consider Akita.
I also did end up getting II - 44M TAS because Medium Tanks are important, III – Jaeger just cause the Extra Damage was the highest, but I rarely used it. I also got V – Karl but that was a mistake. Again, Just get Elefant. I finally also got III – Sturmtiger for who knows, I don't think outside of the start of the game when I didn't understand how important Special Forces were I used. Don't get it, you'll never waste a Special Force on an Armored Car. There is 9999 better things to put a Special Force on.
I used Pioneer and Taurus Corps a lot to just build Radars. No point in upgrading them, and I used da 90/53 because afaik it was the only special force that did extra damage to naval units.
General Choices that I made –
I took Guderian, Leeb and Rommel in that order before I even bought an Allies General. That’s how much harder I found Axis to be. Guderian and Rommel are a must have. You really do not have a choice. Unlike the Soviets, there is no good 2nd free Armor General so just get both. Guderian is better on Mediums, Rommel is better on Heavies. There really is no good 3rd Option. I just use Bock on a Heavy because of the discount but if I had to pick a 3rd maybe Hoth or Graziani?
Leeb. He is just so much better than any other arty general Axis has. I guess Badoglio comes 2nd. I nearly bough him but I chose to usually use Model as my final general pick.
I made my first mistake here. I took Nagumo next. I should have taken an Infantry General before a Naval one. I also should have taken Donitz because of the aura but I saw the 5* on Navy and could not resist. Also Ozawa and Riccardi exist.
I took Yamashita as my Infantry General. You could make the case for Rundstedt, it comes down to playstyle and preference, I think they are about even. I think Mannerheim is also viable but is a clear 3rd. Kuribayashi might be a good 4th option but I personally used Model as my 2nd Infantry General because he would just build radars and have +2 extra defence.
Lastly, I got Yamamoto because Air Force Cluster. Unlike Allies, I think Kesselring is also viable. It depends on if you prefer Victory Rush or Carpet Bombing pretty much.
My Normal Set-Up
Guderian on a Medium Tank with Panther, Leeb on a Heavy Arty with Elefant and Rommel on a Heavy Tank with Maus and Yamashita are automatic. Then my preference is Yamamoto for Aircraft Carriers and Nagumo for Naval Units. If there is no Navy, my choice is usually Bock on the Heavy Tank for the 50% discount followed lastly by Model who I put Pionner or Taurus as his sole existence is to build Radars.
TL;DR version: Great Game, Great Board, Get Elefant and not Karl, and to those people trying to clear so far don't give up, waiting patiently for the next update

Stuff I wish I knew / Might help someone new –
- The most important thing is Medal Management. It is always the most important thing in EasyTech Games, and this is no different. Do not spend Medals on bad generals, use Knight Badges to suit your playstyle and most importantly spend Assault Badges wisely.
- How important Special Forces are. Seriously, having a high-level Special Force can make a bad general stronger than a good general with a low-level Special Force. Using the correct special Infantry Force also drops the morale of the enemy. More on Special Forces later.
- Tech makes the game a lot easier. Especially in Army Groups as your units start with a higher level. At level 5, you can Auto win campaigns on the Axis Side in 39. If you want this game to be a bit more of a challenge, you could cap your tech to level 1 for 1941 increasing it by 1 each theatre.
- You can cloud save and reload to test different generals. If you are unsure of a general, just try him first. Do not like it, reload. Wish I knew this earlier.
- Keep your generals alive. Especially those with important Special Forces. Sacrifice other units to ensure that they do not die. Move your army together and also try and focus on destroying one unit at a time. Preferably the Heavy Arty first and then the Arty next. Once I figured this part out, game became a lot easier.
General Campaign Comments.
The Axis Campaign is SOSOSO much harder than the Allies. Every Single Theatre. It could just be my playstyle suits the Allies more, but I think in general most people would agree that Axis is a lot harder. If in doubt and the choice is between and Axis General and an Allies General, just get the Axis one first, you will not regret it. Also, with the last point, in my opinion the Axis Generals for the most part is better than the Allies one for most roles, which helps in other game modes whilst the Allies Special Forces are in general a bit more flexible than the Axis ones.
I eventually ended the game with a tech level of 4-6-4-2-1.
