Google is becoming more powerful and that is not a good thing. Any website that goes against it is usually deleted. APK Editor would still be the main modding tool if, it didn't build so slowly. Much too powerfull! Google is the Standard-Oil of the 21'st century. Censorship everywhere ! APK-Edior is a program in alpha state - a proove of concept - slow and full of bugs, never arrived to a beta-state. But runs on android 2.1. At least modders with weaker devices can use APK editor. Google Censorship even deletes search results and websites.

Really clean is only: f-droid.org/en/packages/com.apk.editor/At least a FOSS alternative, but be aware: it's Version 0.14 (16.Apr 21) Absolutely worth keeping an eye on. I just found this new tool now, after posting, but AEE is imo already better than APK-Editor. And the best: 100% open source, no ads no tracker ! Don't download the google version! - it can't sign.

No, it is really much more like Apk-Editor.! Even the workflow. But it's safe software. And in early stage. Well, you can disable the tracking applications in the manifest file. No, you can't. Even, the not as tracker defined gxxle - logins can't be disabled. To be true, the declarations in the manifest seem to be 'goodwill' announcements without further function. Newer ET games don't need permissions for RW on SD, and to retrieve Networkstate, because it's granted to all apps on adroid 4.2 on, by default. You can use a track controller, but it needs to be updated regularly. For privacy reasons, only apps from f-droid are acceptable. All apps that contain ads are a problem. Even if you set up all your dissent in detail, american companies still use fingerprints to identify foreigners.

Limiting ourselves to one download site is a problem because, many don't update their games.

You can use a proxy with IP-filtering or Tracker control. I always recommend f-droid software, because only at f-droid.org you find only Open Source apps, without any closed-source dependencies and trackers. ... unnecessary to mention: for sure without ADS!To come back to MT and alternatives, as we have now an OpenSource tool to handle and sign APKs: NMM is still under development ! NMM is an amazing excellent Android app - Perfect for Modding ! I used aready longer NMM 1.5 and MT 2.9x to work. NMM has the only one problem: You don't find the Notepadmm application in your launcher. NMM is so featured, that it is not sure what it is. Basic apps are (7 MB): - file explorer / viewer - editor, multi document, full featured - Hex-editor, multi document - terminal - scripting console, http-server, remote storage .... Just some editor features: - can hold as many, even extreme big files in memory. - a transparent save layer, all changes remain all time, even on garbage collection, or reboot, unlimited undo/redo - Text highlighting, error detection and code beautification. - Complete regex-engine with matching replacement. - really programmable toolbar: I use all my old shortcuts ctrl+s = save, ctrl+l/u = lower/upper-case etc. - Inserting blocks with individual cursor placement... - Lua script ... name it - you will find it, in best implementation - amazing. Because development was stopped for a few months, I did not promote NMM this much. NMM is FAR THE BEST EDITOR FOR MODDING!The combination of NMM and AEE is a decent Open Source modding enviroment and full replacement for MT-vip: the Hex-Editor is practical the same, but multi document, no inspector. (OpenSource - also MT: more than 90% of MT-code is a colection of OpenSource from Git).

I don't know what you mean, NMM file Manager can't open a APK. Is there two different NMM File Apps? You are absolute right! ... and NMM even installs 'as primary app' a file explorer But: NMM it is the best code editor, that I found for android! And it has also a full working hex-editor ! An amazing App ! I still use MT,: MT can't open more than one file a time. so I use Open with and select notepadmm: I have all necessary files open at one time, and can still use MT for all file operations and signing apk in the backgrund. If an edit was destructive, I can use undo and safe an older state. The NMM-editor is so great. With AEE you can open/extract/sign the apk like APK-editor.
