Hey you, you're finally awake. You were trying to perfect clear this mission weren't you? Same as all of us here, and that potato in the corner.
Don't worry, this is just the beginning. 1941 involves a lot of battles around Tobruk, Halfaya Pass, Fort Capuzzo, Bardia, to name a few. It really gives you a feel of the back and forth between the British and the Axis powers.
Now, I'm going to guess you couldn't get rid of Wingate in time and he ran away didn't he? MacArthur 1942 vibes.
Don't worry. We'll get him this time.
Now let's get started.
Mission Objectives:
Main: Occupy 2 Areas
Sub 1: Defeat Wavell in 9 turns
Sub 2: Defeat Wingate in 13 turns
Generals used: Guderian (Medium Tank), Leeb (Heavy Artillery), Model (Infantry), Messe (Medium Tank), (2 empty generals)
Battle Flow Brief:
Overall Strategy: We'll be linking up with the Italians and leading Graziani's troops through Fort Capuzzo, then onwards to Bardia.
Orange circle: Wavell
Brown circle: Wingate
Keep the following in mind.
1. Wavell will turn and run towards Bardia if he detects two enemy units near him, or if he has been attacked.
2. When you get within two grids of Bardia (aka past the river), Wingate will give the order to retreat to Halfaya Pass. However, this only applies for your troops, and not for the Italians.
Side note 1: Speed is of importance, whenever you have space for special forces, use them.
Side note 2: We may get court martialed by Graziani for disobeying his orders to follow the northern coastline.
Place Guderian and Messe on the tanks, Model on an infantry, and Leeb on the heavy artillery. Give the topmost infantry a Parachute Jaeger and move him directly downwards to scout the first blockade. Afterwards, give Leeb an elefant, and the other infantry ARR Airborne. Placing transport troops on the field artillery may also help.
Now, order all forces to head towards Fort Capuzzo, avoiding the first blockade.
Take Fort Capuzzo with the Italians and replenish your troops. Make flexible use of the airport to drop around Fort Capuzzo to drop your troops, and the morale of the defenders. Replenish your infantry when you have the chance to.
Afterwards, head over to meet Wavell.
On turn 5, paratroopers will drop around you. be prepared for them, maintain tight formation to prevent them from flanking you, keep Leeb inland, away from where they'll drop.
Hit Wavell, for the Italians will hit him anyway, and aim for the head!
Unfortunately, he probably won't die, and will run towards Bardia. Keep your Infantry on the river line, but do not cross. Move your tanks towards the bottom river joint, to prevent Wingate from escaping.
Use artillery to fire across the river and whittle the defenders down.
In emergency cases, if the Italians are dying, and your tanks are somewhat in position near the bottom, make the decision to cross the river immediately!
Wingate will keep replenishing in the city, and you can't let the Italians die. They're valuable blockades to keep Wingate from running!
When your tanks are in position, and the Italians have crossed to attack Bardia, cross the river with any troop. This will trigger a Morale drop, and Wingate will start the retreat towards Halfaya pass. Intercept him with your tanks now! If that isn't enough to close the gap, paradrop on him.
For extra security, occupy the airport as soon as you cross the river. Wingate might just equip a paratrooper and drop out in rare cases.
After Wingate is finished, roll your forces down to Halfaya Pass. Use Paratroops to get your infantry there faster. Purchase more troops to hold Halfaya Pass against the remnants.
The British thought that it was Wingate coming to meet them, but it was I! Model!
Final notes:
My tech level is 6/6/6/6/4, with most Special Forces maxed out. However, for this guide, I gave myself a movement handicap and moved one less than the maximum tile I could move, to simulate not having the movement boosts.
Always remember to equip special forces! You'll need their movement boosts in the desert!
If you still have any difficulties, feel free to post them here~
