First question Why did Hannibal cross the alps? The same reason Napoleon did: to provide a surprise attack against the Romans, as well as circumvent the strong Roman Forces south of the Alps. All in all, it was a mistake, as many historians believe that he lost more men going through the Als than he would if he had fought through the plains of NorthWest Italia.

Dude, Gerd von Rundstedt is "broadening his horizons" meanwhile I'm in 3 history electives high school. I'm pretty sure I have fighting chance. The only answer can be: Debate! The winner will show the world that they are better. As a handicap, you get to choose the question, although it must be reasonable. You can't expect me to argue that the world is flat. Right then. this might find a better place on the worldwars forum. I'll tag you tomorrow and tell you what i've chosen.

anyway, here is my topic: The treatment of the Armenian population under the authority of the Ottoman Empire during the First World War was primarily the result of security concerns rather than an attempt at systematic extermination. since you told me I was disadvantageous, I will let you choose which side of the debate. I'll make the thread sometime next week, when you voice the side you would like to take.

I have to vote pro on this, and I will argue for the following thesis: The Armenian Genocide of the Great War was an attempt to both create Patriotic Fervor as well as to introduce stability into the Ottoman Empire rather than to simply exterminate Armenian Christians.

Question: How many days were there in between when Varus first heard of the "rebellion" in the north of Germania and when he died at the battle of Teutoberg Forest?

you know what? Gerd can have it. I don't have much spare time this week, so I can't really keep up a proper debate.
