But I can't find any other great deterrent which prevents the great powers from going to war, especially as strong as Nuclear missiles. |

Well, I can easily claim that the sole reason why there hasn't been a World War since 1945 is because Nuclear Weapons. If you observe the wars after 1945, most of them were fought where one side didn't have nuclear weapons (Not taking indirect allies like USA or USSR during the proxy wars of the Cold war era). Before 1945, almost all powers had huge military strength, but not big enough to act as a deterrent, especially like Nuclear Weapons. |
