I just started this game, beat a few missions and now I have 2250 medals. I already bought some cheap gens with gold but I am wondering what "good" general I should get first. Should I get Attila, save for Caesar or wait until further ages for better generals?

However, which one you should buy first depends entirely on what kind of team you intend to go for: InfCom buy Caesar; CavCom buy Attila; unsure then wait for Nobby. Attila really is a beast in the early game and the only reasons not to buy him are if you're going InfCom, or ArchCom with an infantry front line.

Honestly, with your playstyle of Blitzkrieg bash and whacking, I recommend CavCom. Get Attila, then Edward, and lastly Nobunaga Oda. Then get Blucher and you're set. Cav gens are pretty fragile, so you will want to finish the level quickly before they die, both of which they are adept at doing. MAX OUT ATTILA'S BRAVENESS AND BRING HIS ACTIVE TO LEVEL 6 BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!!

A mixed lineup is definitely possible, but it is much harder than a specific type. In any case, all ArchCom lineups are sort of mixed, just because of the lack of good gens and Commanders.

In GCR and GoG3, everyone's going to have pretty much the same lineup just swapping gens like Yamashita for Rundstedt or Huo for Scipio. I might do more than 1 run of this game, but for now I will take your advice and go for Cavalry.

I also grinded him up to lvl 20 and now he is wrecking everything. I will get his ability up to lvl 6 soon after I get some more medals. Also, should I age up Alexander or leave him in classical? So far, this game is quite fun and my only complaint is historical inaccuracy (why tf do the Gauls get Charlemagne?? Also why is caesar putting down spartacus' rebellion. Oh right, Crassus doesn't exist). Edit: I just spotted a brown wolf that OHKO'd one of my generals, poseidon and a water dragon thing. This game is the most historically inaccurate ET game ever.

Upgrade Alex once, to phanlax. You'll want to invest solidly in Saldin, Khalid/Cleo, and Attila. As to historical accuracy, at least it isn't GOG2. On a more serious note, Poseidon and Such are a part of a mythology mode, and as for misplaced generals: they just don't have enough space to put all generals over a 3000 year period.

I might do more than 1 run of this game, but for now I will take your advice and go for Cavalry. There are several important facts you have to keep in mind: 1. The game is still evolving. So, some tips and recommendations you may find here and there are obsolete or, at least, obsolescent. One example. A year or so ago it was enough to have 8-person team to complete the game. Now it is not. We have several new modes of the game when up to 16 generals are needed. 2. There are many good generals. But there's also a space left behind, as they say in chess. Cavalry might be very efficient in some circumstances but then you'll face a couple of deadly archers and you are stuck. So, maybe a balanced team is more viable today than anything else. You have to support and to defend your main damage dealers to be successful. In general, EW5 is a more difficult game than GCR or GoG3. So, it is a good challenge. There are already many challenging battles: Asgard, Temple, last 10 battles in Empire mode. And it well may be that new hard mode campaigns will be even more difficult. Only a handful of players completed the previous content so far. And literally no-one has beaten the game as it is now. So, welcome to the club

My previous game was with a mixed team so it is definitely possible. The benefit is the versatility that having a bit of everything brings, but it lacks the power that you get from stacking two or more commanders of the same type.

This game is the most historically inaccurate ET game ever. good luck going on rough road ahead.. I myself HATE cavs, they are not useless, but very hard to use, they require you to set up a group of low enemies, or have a godly strong attack (which is not always an option).. you can shove a nobunaga in a group of enemies and he can come alive, throw a cav commander, don't kill your target, see you in the afterlife!
how comes a cavalry is more fragile than an archer?
answer is range, and archers are everywhere

If 16 generals are needed, I think a balanced team will be required because there aren't 16 good generals of any type. For now, I will continue investing in attila while thinking about my options. 3. No one has beaten the game? Well then, I will try to be among the first . The hard mode campaigns are definitely difficult and I am thinking about if you will need lots of rumor generals to confuse the legendary beasts. For now though, I will just keep beating missions with just attila and think about who to get next. Finally, how many medals per day can you get from farming? I want to build a really strong team, but I don't want to farm for a decade to get those generals.

Rumour doesn't work on most (if not all) of the mythical beasts.

In fact, I am playing more of EW5 than GoG3 right now. So, do you get 1 mission/invasion a day for every city you have?
