I think only multiplayer can give an answer to this discussion, so easytech makes multiplayer in GCR.

For me, javelinners are the best units in the game, especially since they can fight back to everyone, while war chariot can't fight back to a archers. Who doesn't believe me, let him go and fight Drasus in the German campaign. Yeah they are my favorite unit too.But 50% damage to infantry is pretty good boost.

Horse archers are great too, 50% boost against cavalry, plus great mobility. They all have some advantages of their own. As i said before, i think only multiplayer can give an answer as to who is the strongest and most useful unit and general.

War Elephant: Thump+Heavy Armor is seriously OP. Too bad only Carthage gets 'em.

Javelineers ftw. Strong attack, good defence, acceptable price. War Chariots are OP, yes, but also very expensive. Woad Raiders are my second most favourite though, mainly to kill those pesky armored units. Imperial Guards and Cataphracts are quite tanky.

Chariots are probably the most powerful units in the game, but they only really come into play when you conquest as Egypt (or Cyrene in punic war). So they donโt really help you out THAT much in the grand scheme of things.
It is fun to steamroll the world with them though. Theyโre also very cost efficient, so thereโs no reason to not spam hordes of them when you play as Egypt.

After a bit of play testing the different elite units, I'd say, atleast in my opinion, the best would be woad raiders. Doing more damage to all infantry is great, but straight up deleting almost an entire legion of an elite enemy in one hit is just magnificent. Add in an infantry general like vercingetorix or Spartacus and watch them one shot cities with battle rams. I mentioned how good axeman are here, and they're basically just axemen on steroids. War elephants are also tied with them, and are even better in a 1v1 fight due to their passive reducing atk damage(applies after damage, so you can still take a lot of damage from the first counter attack) ;what holds them back is being less spammable, high cost, slower and are only playable in the punic wars for conquest.

zabadanov86, woad raiders deal 50% more damage to archers, destroy heavy armor, great stats all around and more spammable. No contest. War elephants have higher damage ceiling, but woad raiders have higher base damage. Against cities and elite units, they just destroy them with rams equipped, similar to how general Mack got destroyed by Napoleon in the battle of Ulm. War chariots do deal 50% against infantry, which is the most common unit in the game, but due to piercing damage, they aren't able to one round heavy infantry or other heavy armored units, which are the prevalent units you want to beat. Not as effective against cities either. Funnily enough, war chariots beat woad raiders, tho not without taking a lot of damage.

Thanks for the facts, now I can tell others how Karl Schulmeister schooled the Austrians by being a double agent
