Basil slowly then Cnut in maps, but he is good at first attack. IMHO Cnut wirh Varangian's better than Basil who specifically on this troops. No? I'm not sure why you think that there is a difference in mobilty between the two. Basil can fire off his skill every 2 turns, and Basil will be better than Cnut with Varangians because... well, Basil was made for the Varangians after the update. Unless you mean that you fire off Cnut's skill to help Basil, but that's not really going slower now, is it? Considering Varangian's fluctuation range, the expected attack increased is less than 15. In the long run Cnut will be better than Basil because his unique item will ensure the survival of Vikings and his active has better tactical value. Speed wise they are the same.

I would say that Basil is better than Cnut when the moral is high. But Cnut is slightly better with normal moral. Since Basil has a quite solid basic moral, I think it is possible to increase his moral even further with the new helm we have in the shop. Cnut is the most tanky f2p general, he won't let you down even with regular Infantry. So I prefer to use Basil as a "special guest" in campaigns, and to deploy Cnut as a regular general.

Cnut is better to deploy on varangians because he deals almost the same damage as Basil II on Varangians plus he has composure, which is extremely suitable when you want to take down tanky and power gens. Plus he has damage reduction, which enables his surival.

I've said that Cnut is perfectly fine with regular Infantry, therefore I use Basil as a special guest because he is less suitable for leading common Infantry units. If we let Cnut to command Varangians we have no place for Basil, who is a rather mediocre general when not commanding his special unit. Plus Basil has higher basic moral than Cnut and can reach high moral status faster. And it is very important for our "special guest".

I don’t like this ranking, even if the highlight-green is more readable. I still see many prejudices regarding Baldwin and Barbarossa that are only less inconsistent than those who briefly see no point in hiring the king of Jerusalem if you’re not P2W... “Imperat lectio facilior”

And he is quite good with horses / raid T6 fragments even they are not the best

alfred has the potential to be 2nd best charge cav after richard (probably even better than charlemagne because his unit is hospitaller - a melee cav which are inferior to charge cav - less charge chance, enemy spams less cav range in campaigns and a lot more melee infantry so charge cav have better counters). great thing about alfred is you can grind and max him in the beta. he costs 1.5k medals, you can grind the noble cavalry unit from recruitment, and if it's true that his equipment is free, he can do 30% extra damage with noble cavalry. Alfred's special item comes in Battle of Ashdown Easy from like chapter 5 on Campaign and you can also grind Alfred's Raid on Hard mode for more Noble Cavalry units. I did this until I completed El Cid's Raid.
