In case it is true it is extremely harmful skill. I am attacking front unit which is weak against my Cavalry and with triggered Detour instead I throw my cav on the archers. Isn't it stupid? Well yes but actually no, if there's an archer in the legion then they counter attack you anyway no matter which unit you hit so the difference is that you hit the weaker and more dangerous unit meaning their damage will be reduced, also the damage is spread between the legion instead of killing the front line making it harder for the enemy to replenish and easier to kill. What do You mean by saying "weaker". Weaker or stronger depends on what You are using to attack. Front infantry is weaker against Cavalry than Archer in the rear. I want to crush frontliner Infantry with Cavalry so my other units can finish off the archers.

Weaker as in squishier defense and therefore easier to kill, also common detour units actually have bonus damage against ranged such asthe vanilla single handed sword and knight sword that have bonuses against ranged infantry and cavalry respectively who are usually positioned in the rear.

I don't understand You. Here is the situation. I faced strong enemy general with mixed Legion. Infantry + archers. I want to destroy infantry with cav, so my second infantry squad will kill archers. And that is my idea. But with Detour I have no guarantee that my Cav will target enemy frontliner infantry unit.

That makes sense if you don't want the unpredictability but one detour trigger doesn't affect the whole legion meaning the other units will still get some good damage in on the front, but I think the general idea with detour is to have melee cavalry and infantry weaken the rear and front for an easy finish by charge cavalry or ranged units.

Sidenote: detour is good in sieges since it can't be prevented like charge (I think) and it spreads out the damage between the legion and weakens them instead of killing them meaning the enemy can't stall you by replacing their lost units.

Yes, an unpleasant recruiting situation... But don't get discouraged. But there was such a great thing as Reid. I only need a month to level up my templars. And only a year to raise to the maximum. Or two. And a million money. Or two.

Well that's sucks for you since detour is pretty prevalent but I like having 2 weak enemies and 1 healthy compared to 2 healthy ones but hey it's up to the players preference, also few detour triggers will hardly turn the battle into an ai meat grinder imo.

If You face enemy which is much stronger than Your general and Your Cav will Detour into Archers I doubt You are going to end up with two damaged back row archer enemies. Most likely You end up with crippled Cav.

Based on my observation, detour is invented because the new characteristic given to counter inf in 1.3 has almost completely cancelled the charge rate of melee inf and melee cav. People called for an alternative method for these two to attack back-row units and detour was one of the more popular proposals. This is how I see people might use detour: when attacking a mixed legion with a counter inf protecting back-row ranged units, you use detour to get around the counter inf that has counter and damage reduction against cavalry and attack the ranged units directly, which is the specialty of melee inf and melee cav.

Yes, I can understand why they invented Detour. I don't like how they implemented it. It makes melee cav unreliable when fighting against mixed legions including archers in the back row. Melee Cavalry wasn't good enough, but at least I was sure that if I use it properly against the units it is specialized to kill I am fine. Now I am not even sure I will attack the unit I want to attack.

I'm speechless. How recruitment become like this. Have you maxed out all legendary units available from advanced enlistment? It still says guaranteed O.o

It still says guaranteed O.o I think it was a result of single summons done before this attemnt. The game now remembers first 10 fragments and will give them to you no matter what, there is no way to get rid of them
