Okay, I have got 2 questions, is there only one correct general path? And second, what's the path? I know about the first one being Badoglio, Ozawa, if you get stuck in the late Axis levels, and then Guderian. I really want a simple reply with the path, and maybe some extra text, I tried looking up the forums, but the replies are branched and I got no time for debunking everything, for example, I saw some say things about having Crerar or Auchinleck(sorry if I mispronounced), which confused me, I am the straightforward type of guy, but as said, any extra text would be welcomed if the main message is clear. Thanks!

I went for Crerar and Fletcher, both slightly expensive but they deal high damage in their respective niches.

1. Yes and no. The complete path varies depending on the skills and preferences of a player, but they do share the same key members: Guderian, Govorov, Patton, and an artillery EC. Manstein can replace one of the latter two. These generals form the backbone of a squad and their only alternative is a well-trained EC. The choice of other generals, however, is more flexible.
2. As long as you get the key members, the others are purely based on preference. Rommel or Vatutin for the third tank, Bai-Vasilevsky pair or Konev for third artillery plus infantry, Yamamoto, Halsey, or Donitz for navy. Of course, you can make another two ECs as well.
Badoglio-Ozawa path is recommended for beginners to easytech games. Since WC3 is a pretty old game now and the way of getting the best out of terrain skills is becoming common, Crerar, if used properly, can be a cheaper and more hard-hitting substitute for Badoglio. Ozawa's 3 air force stars and 100 HP makes him friendly for beginners who need an air general in the early game. His navy stars will also become handy when you are doing Missile Crisis the mission for Terracotta Army. If you don't feel like getting him, you could get Greim as an air general, or give a few stars to an EC since you will do it eventually. These generals, like Messe in WC4, are meant to help you get Guderian easier. However, if you feel like you can get Guderian without them, don't get them.
Auchinleck is also a pre-Guderian general you can consider getting if Badoglio and Ozawa are still not enough for you. In general, he is less popular than Crerar, who hits harder, can go on artillery, and is slightly cheaper, and Vatutin, who has the quality to break into the endgame squad. His main advantage is he has 20 more HP and 1 extra movement (3 grids on super tank) while still being significantly cheaper than Vatutin.

I thought of the more flexible general squad, especially when there is technically an infinite amount of medals for you in a lifetime, therefore you can spend or sell and come back with the amount of medals thanks to the wonders. And also, good to know the things about Crerar and overall if I should need to purchase them later on. Thanks, Manstein.

If you are really not concerned about medals, you should go with 3 ECs instead of academy generals after getting the three key generals.

I agree Guderian and artillery EC are essential, but Govorov and Patton are more like icing on the cake to me. Personally I prefer Göring after acquiring Crerar, as his money and metal income boost skills work wonders in both campaign and conquest mode, then I will heading straight to Guderian to finish my core cast. For auxiliary ones, I had Vatutin to assist Crerar and Guderian, but ultimately traded him and Crerar for Rommel, then I acquired Franco to assist Göring and a financial built EC in conquest mode. (from 1939 Norway to 1960 PRC without fail, really) Unfortunately, I was fed up with the alien campaigns and ended up replacing Franco with Eisenhower. For naval generals, I’m not a fan of sea battles, so for a long time I solely relied on my “Yamamoto clone” naval EC until I got Nimitz to help brutal forcing my way through the highest difficulty sea battles. (Even so, he may ended up sitting on oil rigs if there’s any on the attack route)

You got me super curious about your lineup as it sounds like you don't have many combat generals. I've heard of plenty of good words about Goring and said some of them myself, but none of them is about his skill set. Goring's main selling point to me is his 280 HP and moderate combat ability as a top air general. If you lineup is strong enough for campaigns then you definitely won't need to worry about conquests, so I don't see the point of getting a conquest specialist, let alone two. There's absolute zero need for a dedicated EC for navy, actually for all but tank or artillery. The only damage skill specific to navy is fleet leader, which doesn't provide a lot anyway. Just give your artillery/tank EC a few naval stars and he is good to go. Nimitz is considered obsolete long ago as he's just Nagano but costs 1k more, even though I like neither of them because of their lack of speed. Plus, Eisenhower is by far the best admiral.

As for Govorov, I did give him a try but his low speed is a big no-go to me, I don’t need an artillery general that only hit marginally harder than those less optimal but always lags behind the frontline when I need him for fast reaction purposes. And for Nimitz I has no oil wonders in hand when I bought him, so he was also serving as temporary substitute in that aspect, also I opted not to pay real money if possible, so I only bought Eisenhower long after Nimitz (I even had one time dismissed him but chose to recruit again for academic purposes). Oh and most of my combat cast were bought before 1.2.2 patch, so there’s no 1975 conquest to factor in.

I do remember there being tons of disputes about generals before the aliens update, but nowadays the Guderian-Govorov-Patton is essentially a must for non-IAP players. Everyone hates Govorov's speed but his damage isn't just "marginally" better than the rest, and his speed is somewhat compensated by the smaller maps in campaigns. If you have Manstein then Patton can serve to free him from tanks, as we need him more on artillery. Street Fighting works pretty well against aliens since aliens won't nuke.

It’s not like I denounce street fighting but my doctrine pairs this skill with artillery and airforce generals, who are more often taking up positions in cities, in fact my artillery and naval (rebuilt as artillery sometime ago but still ride ships from time to time) ECs do have this skill.
