Excellent consul skill, good active skill, medium counter infantry skill, poor melee cavalry skill, and mysterious swamp skill 😬. Overall 3/5, but I'll give it 2/5 because there are more relevant and interesting options.
You don't need a violinist...
P.S. He does not have a unique weapon. No, and it won't.

He can charge in the mud if needed. This is situational but still thug in my opinion.

His active is like a free war drum, I always want to save my war drums. I like it.
DIE is good for tanking, but is replaced by: Narses, Simeon, and Aetius. And loads of other mediocre silver generals.
MCE is just unfortunate, because Charge Cavalry is better. And this skill is replaceable by lots of other generals.
I have never seen a swamp before, maybe I haven't been looking hard enough, but he leads Melee Cav, which don't charge very often anyways, instead preffering to detour.
Negotiation Expert is covered by: Matilda, Olga, Otto, Belisarius, Alfred, and Alexios.
Conclusion: Roland, Simeon, and even Alexios do his job better than him. A generous 3.5/5 if those guys didn't exist, but they do, so it's a 2/5.
