I have the following generals:
Richard I - Triple Templars Roland - Triple Templars Lancelot - War Ace Cav Woad Ravenna (don't have Camel Riders unlocked) Cnut - Triple Varangians Belisarius - Triple Varangians
Lancelot and Belisarius are using El Cids and Arthur's unique equipment atm.
I have hoarded some Heraldry, Mithrill Bars and Medals. I'm unsure what general to purchase next or wether I should just hoard for future updates. My War gear is lacking and most of my units are still very low level. I think it's best to focus on Templars and Varangians for now.
How would you guys manage my resources?

Have You obtained Guinevere? You can use resources to obtain amazing bond Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot. By deploying them You can even further increase Lancelot's firepower. Cheap investment is Belusarius+Theodora bond as well. To 2nd level bond is already strong enough.

I have not obtained her, but I would need Arthur for the bond to function and I currently don't plan on spending any more money. Theodora has a bond with Justinian and Belisarius with Narses iirc. I would need to aquire Justinian and Narses respectively.

Hoarding is good for now until you face an actual challenge.
Justinian is very good for Conquest, especially when he and his wife are deployed. He's an okay archer.
El Cid is one of the strongest archer one can get as a F2P player right now, but you will have some competent free archers early on to compensate. Not necessary until later on to swap in.
Alfred is a strong cav gen with notable anti-fortification capability (his skill, actually). Thanks to his unique equipment, he hits quite hard on the field as well.

I'm currently grinding through the hard mode campaigns after clearing normal. I haven't had much trouble with conquest so Justinian seems like a luxury purchase. I'm tempted by both El Cid and Alfred because I have their unique weapons but will hoard for now.

Lancelot is limited in campaign, because it's difficult to assemble the units he requires. El Cid is amazing on any Melee Range Range combo and thus a useful addition to my lineup. I'm unsure about his best unit combo in castle. Don't have conquistadors yet so currently running him with full Ravenna.

It is enough to look at the difference between Conquistadors and Templars and Mamluks respectively. Mamluks and Templars as T6 units are evidently better than all their rivals, while the difference between Conquistadors and, let's say, Pavise crossbowmen is really marginal, as it was demonstrated by yuanzhong.

I really hope they will do something about it. It will be extremely strange to use mid tier units in the end game simply because high tier units have trashy skills.

I don't have the resources for units yet. So I have focused on value improving my Templars and Varangians because those get my roster the best value.

its fine. you want to have him anyway to play his hero legend^^, imo edit: same with alfred actually so even if they are not what your team needs, you can do no wrong with both of them

I hope you have a cloud safe, buddy.. El Cid is a good pick. He is a very hard hitting archer/infantry general who's slow and his raid is the best F2P raid in the game.

This pool shows how democracy doesn't simply work... In this case the lord was a better pick due to the fact that this person doesn't have archer gens and Alfred isn't needed when they've got Richard
