I have Justinian Narses Khalid Alfred and freebies Instead of Basil, get Roland if you want. I would get Cnut instead of Harald because Khalid is really meh in comparison to others. Get Cnut.

I don't want to hit a man who is gone already with his tail between his legs, but some of his advices were really awful and his personal experience of the game was misleading for many new players.
Basil is a mediocre general at best, without any trump cards against his most obvious rivals.
And Hardrada is a very narrow specialist. If you buy him you have no other choice than to deploy him as your "special guest" general in campaigns. Because without units with charge probability Hardrada is ABSOLUTELY useless. It is not a problem for a midgame player, perhaps. But I don't think that a new player doesn't have better options at the start of the game.

I'm wondering if Harald on a melee cav-melee inf-melee inf lineup would still work. The cav unit enables Outburst to work and the inf units are affected by his skills.

He has only 23 cavalry points and "Master of assault" still requires someone with axe or double sword. Plus his Outburst is on 4 turns cooldown in comparison to Simeon, for example.

If you have Robin Hood, Saladin and Nur, El CID is a better Harald Hardrada. Harald deserves his hero legends due to his heroic living tbh (he was too Chad in real life).

French Marshal Augereau served in Swiss, Russian, Prussian, Saxon, Neapolitan, Portuguese and French armies. Don't recall ET ever made a decent general out of him in their games Great adventurers became great historical figures when they win a crown, not when they lose it 😉

I personally like those who fought with less (as well as you do).Their life is always more interesting than those of certain V.I.P. crowned-heads. There are the ”Bernini's” and the “Borromini's” of the military world as well.

Wasnt it obvious that Hardrada is supose to have Varangians as special unit? He was their leader in one point....

Wasnt it obvious that Hardrada is supose to have Varangians as special unit? He was their leader in one point.... Indeed it was a better option, or at least a more logic and historically accurate one. Let’s hope they will make some adjustments in the future... Speaking of nordics I don’t like the design of blue Vikings: they should wear wolf skins instead of fictional horned helmets...
