I have Justinian,Alfred,Basil,Narses,El Cid,Khalid,Cnut,Theodora and Adil plus freebies Baldwin is much more tactically useful, although his unique weapons are quite difficult to obtain, unattainable for f2p players as well as Frederic's because they are in the premium line. A big plus compared to Roland is that they have their own chapter. |

I say Roland because of a weapon. Although, as my countryman suggested, Baldwin and Frederick have interesting tactical talents indeed. If you are FTP and you buy Baldwin or Frederick, you can put Charlemagne's weapon on them, since it has damage reduction

I would get Roland. He is the best melee cav general, and has an accessible item. He rocks on Teutons, his biggest flaw is that Hussars are not F2P.
Fred and B*ldwin are support generals. They do have HLs, though.
If you want resources and your generals are very fragile, the support generals are there to tank a hit and give you a turn. Also, Fred's HL has Teutons. This is why if you want one of them, I would suggest Fred before B*ldwin.
If you want more firepower, Roland.
You do have Khalid, who is basically a Roland-lite though.
