Pick the "Free Pack" before updating, after updating you can get it again.
The rest works as intended as you can only have it once.
Its not much, but hey, its free.

Still sucks that skills can't go over lvl 4. Level 5 should be the cap, achievable by having both the unique item on the general leveled up and a gear that specifically raises that skill, but nope, it will do the same having both than just one.
