So I want to replace my Defense Infantry from Phalanx to two of these
Which one should I get?
- Legion Spearmen
- Lombardy Halberdiers

Most likely your Phalanx pikemen will be 3-6 levels higher all the time, simply because both Legion spearmen and Lombard Halberders are hard-to-get units. We still don't have access to Legion spearmen and to spend your Raid tickets on them isn't the best idea either. And you won't find many fragments of Lombard Halberders as well. |

It is highly doubtful that any f2p player will ever be able to upgrade them up to lvl 15, let alone higher. Probably a year or a year and a half is needed to achieve this. Quite likely majority of players will complete EW7 in this period of time. It is possible, I think, for f2p players to get and to upgrade one or two T6 units. Let's say Mamlukes or Teutons, or Templars. But this means deliberately to avoid Swiss guys and to concentrate our efforts elsewhere. If we will overextend ourselves by aiming to get everything - that straw will break a Camel's back, imo. |

I will try to focus on lombardy because it will be Robert Bruces special unit, so you will have + 20 cards, and his item is free, so it makes sense. Its not the best, but its decent enough. Legion spearmen is maybe better,, but its rarer...

Legion spearmen is maybe better,, but its rarer... I see many Lombardies these days in Territory shop (almost 1/2 a day) and they’re kinda cheap too. They’re just a weaker version of the Swissguards which are fierce. I used a lvl 7 Lombardy on my Cnut to resist against those buffed Teutons with 3000 and so hp, and most of them were just annihilated before going to the red circle and way before The Boyars’ arrival. For us F2P players Lombardy halberdiers are the best farmable defensive infantry units and maybe the most effective. |

The ideal is Lombardy as it's stat is close to Swiss...
The ideal-reality is legion as you can farm them on Belisarius raid and triumphs/proof of honour/ campaign. But still locked in mercenary pool which I don't get why they do it...
The reality is phalanx as you can upgrade them. Buying in shop and rerolling.

Lombardy Hallberies are only better against Charging cavalr. Аgainst other units, including archers, Legion Speramen is better, due to more defense and Strong-Counter skill.

With legion spearmen one problem or bug, they can't be recruit from mercenary orders. I can't understand why, it's a real bug even not open T6 units can be recruit if you already have 1 fragment. That's why we don't have enough level for legion spearmen from start, without grinding they must be 7-8 level at least, and now lombardy halberdiers level higher. |
