I was wondering how you guys pair your items to which generals. i hardly bought medal items from shop yet. i did buy all crossbows though i would like you to argue your setup if youd be so kind and critique mine so i can improve it. so to give you insight in what my setup is at the moment: 1 Cav com: golden spear lvl2 [for dmg] + tutankhamnun dagger lvl1) [for healing, didnt upgrade ganjiang sword yet, did not yet seem worth it]2 mithy: crossbow + dragon tripod lvl1 [healing and morale]3 octavian: crossbow + golden mask lvl1 4 vercy: laurel crown lvl1 [morale for roar; upgrade did not yet seem worth it] + caduceus lvl1 [for movement]5 pompey: crossbow + ganjiang sword lvl1 [upgrade did not yet seem worth it]6 belisarius: crossbow + shield of thunder lvl2 [def bc many attacks, and high morale for assault]7 crassus: pompey gladius 8 drusus: crossbow other gens with crossbows i might use when i feel like it: huo, arminius scipio cleo idk i only have these artifacts atm. please include all f2p items in your recommandations bc i could purchase some of them immidiatly just had other priorities. anyway waiting for input

After some considerations I decided to give Consul's scepter and tripod to my Commander (While Belisarius gets Spear and Ganjiang sword).

My set up is similar to what I suggested in my equipment analysis. Before upgrades it was something like this: Cav Com: Golden Spear and Dragon Tripod Belisarius: Gallic Uniform and Ganjiang Sword Huo: Vercingetorix: Laurel Crown and Art of War Pompey: Consul's Scepter and Holy Grail Bato: Crossbow and Golden Mask. Mithridates VI: Asian Uniform and Golden Feather Octavian: Augustus Helmet and Shield lf Thunder Now with upgrades and Caudecus, I'm going for something like this: - Cav Com: Golden Spear 2 and Ganjiang Sword 2. Since he can deal 1000+ damage per hit and get multiple hits a turn, I 100% suggest this or then on Belisarius as stoic did. - Belisarius: Gallic War 1 and Shield of Thundef 2. Infantry buff for the 2nd best cav gen and SoT to keep high morale. - Huo: Dragon Shield 1 and Caduceus 1. I'm not yet 100% sure about whom to place tje Caduceus on, but this works well with Imperial Guard's debuff. - Vercingetorix: Laurel Crown 2 and Art of War 1 - Pompey: Consul's Scepter 2 and Holy Grail 1. In my opinion Pompey with his survivability (and Holy Grail) and speed is the best for the Scepter, although to which one reason might be that I don't value his combat capabilities as high as others. Holy Grail also helps in holding cities. - Bato/Cassius: Germam Uniform 1 and Golden Mask 1 - Mithridates VI: Augustus Helmet 2 and Dragon Tripod 2 - Drusus: Asian Uniform 2 and Golden Feather - Octavian: Africanus Uniform (just for the +15%) 1 and Tutankhamun Dagger You can read my thread about this for more explanations for my choices. Although multiple lines of my opinions may not help at all. european-war-4.boards.net/thread/16868/great-conqueror-rome-equipment-analysis

Kliment Jefremovitš Vorošilov , i dont think that having any regular item lvl 1 is better than a simple crossbow instead meaning your belisarius and huo. i mean dragon shield is hardly worth the purchase imo. so why? ^^ i wanted to keep banners out of this but: is it correct to assume that you have banner of mars with high morale on octavian if this is your item setup for your archers? i have been reading in your analysis too thanks

stoic do you switch belisarius items back to commander though for hero legends where you probably wont deploy both cav com and belisarius both? [you do have cav com right?] with limited gens i always like to have as many different unittypes as possible bc i like the skill diversity. if i deploy my cavcom and have one or two places left i probably choose vercy and or mithy not a second cav.

In fact, I find it even more convenient for battles with limited number of generals, because additional damage bonus from scepter will apply to all troops around Commander too. Besides, if I have two free slots it is almost always Belisarius rather than any other general. He is really a great general, who demonstrates high levels of efficiency in synergy together with Commander.

As for Belisarius, Gallic Uniform is certainly better than a crossbow, even if the effect is multiplied too early to have a bigger effect.

Commander: Apollo5, Ganjiang2, G.spear2 -> attack and crit often Huo: boThunder, ShieldoTh2, AugustusH2 -> crit often and usually the first to attack and apply buff so needs more HP Belisarius: Juno2, Golden Feather1, Laurel Crown2, -> attack often, boost poor movement Pompey: Jupiter5, Art of War1, Dragon Shield1 -> tank and guaranteed movement to capture city center Vercingetorix: Vulcan5, Dragon Tripod1, Gallic War2 -> boost poor movement and allow more crits Bato: boEagle, Golden Mask1, AugustusA1 -> second tank Mithridates: Mars5, FuryofPharaoh2, Crossbow -> crit often, spread fire Octavian: boSun, Tutankh2, Military Map1 -> boost poor movement, spread plague, primary oration target Drusus: Mercury1, Caduceus2, Crossbow -> crit often, boost poor movement, reduce morale Of course, not everyone has the Fury of Pharaoh, but I won it so for me it's a trophy rather than an IAP otherwise I'd work in either Pharaoh's or Consul's Scepter. So far I didn't unlock all of the Elite Arms which could lead to some of the movement boosting items to be replaced by German/Asian/Gallicus Armors or the 15% shields

Archer Com: Agustus helm lvl2 + Sheild of Thunder lvl2 Reason: Durable javlineers with 51% crit rate (10% from Mercury banner)
Arminius: Golden spear lvl2 + Ganjiang sword lvl2 Reason: High damage 10% heal and 50% crit (+20% crit damage from minerva banner)
Huo: Laurel crown lvl 2 + tut dagger lvl 2 Reason: Debuffer. He applies plague, debuffs armor, and imp calvery has better stats so I buff him less. (triumph banner)
I split my good stuff between two cav generals cause Hannibal is here to ruin my day and good enough cav generals is good enough but 1 super buffed cav general might get recked by hannibal.
Vercingetorix: Dragon tripod lvl 2 + dragon sheild lvl 2 Reason: tanky wood raiders. Cannot be cheesed (plague or fire). Always high moral for crit rate (banner of vulcan to buff 3 of his 4 skills) Also his fearless trait makes him my die hard unit
Pompey: Centurian sheild + Golden mask lvl2 Reason: pompey is just a tanky unit with his legionaries. Just add some defense and health and your good to go. Also attadk does not decrease make him a weaker die hard unit (Banner of eagle)
This is my anti hannibal team. Pompey in from to soak damage, archer commander + mitridates on flanks after hannibal gets baited into pompey, the vercingetorix in rear to take over for pompey and smak hannibal. (for some reasom vercingetorix seems to really like attacking hannibal.)
Mithridates: centurian sheild + art of war lvl 2 Reason: He either rush down hannibal or he doesnt' Slap some health and moral (banner of mars) but besides that dont think too hard about him.)
Octavian: Agustus armor lvl2 + golden feather lvl2 Reason: golden feather and agustus armor gives him speed. He's decent enough in javlineers so I give him some survivability (banner of sun)
Drusus: centurian sheild + Caduceus lvl2 Reason: javlineers are good so I gave him som mobility and survivability like octavian. (banner ofVenus cause it buffs two of his skills)
Hasdrubal: Cent sheild + banner of lion Reason: gotta use those Tanit elephants
Bato: cent sheild + gallic war lvl 2 reason: wood raiders are good and mobility so he can home in on those javlineers (banner of hero)
Crassus: centurian sheild + banner of jupiter reason: To be replaced by Belesarius when I finally decide to get him
This is my Premier arena loadout. It works well against even full pay to win teams and it works well enough in other modes.

h132123 , i am incredibly surprised by the amount of def items you use. i do not have many of these secondary gens yet and therefore only play small arena. my strategy is 1. attack any enemy with max 3 high morale or less 2. never attack hannibal if you can avoid it xD so thanks for your pitch on anti hannibal team and combi

I am a f2p player and am almost unbeaten in the arena (still not lvl 30 to be fair, lvl 25 after two weeks), but Caesar, Attila and Han Xin don't impress me at all, they are like my regular side gens. Hannibal is kinda really strong on paper but just empirically was never able to turn the tables against me. Spartacus on the other hand is the one responsible for I think all my three losses so far, if the friendly AI just chooses not to finish him off, his ability to hit always with 5 legions (he kills 2 legions per hit minimum) is just absolutely crushing. I'd be interested in your experiences though: Hannibal or Spartacus in the arena?

run4glory , i did get finished brutally by a spartacus once as you discribed and he had accumulated like 5k+ points in his mvp result. but otherwise i dont avoid him much and win. but should hannibal go first he oneshots my strongest legions. maybe relevent also i use lots of crossbows and dmg items on my gens not def as h132123 does so if he gets to go again and takes out my best gens i am done for before the battle rly begins. to be fair, by avoiding him so long i havent actually faced him with my far stronger higher upgraded units, gens and items yet.

I'd be interested in your experiences though: Hannibal or Spartacus in the arena? Sorry for butting in but i disagree on hannibal part, imo the most fearsome thing about hannibal isnt about his damage (in fact my cav com has dmg than him in a single target overall and anyone can build their commander like that but rarely do anyone even talk about him) but his overlord with elephant. My damage using hannibal not on the target but the surrounding two enemies is broken and it gets more broken the more chance he get to attack consecutively. In short, hannibal without his banner is basically cav com, but with his banner maxed he definitely outshines everyone if he is in the frontline(unless the ai basically bcame braindead and moves toward one target and attacks it instead of attacking his front which isnt unusual tho). Han xin on the other hand is a dark horse, he's either a bluff or a monster, nothing in between. I said this because i never expected about han xin but this han xin in arena basically killed my commander in one turn cuz he attacked 4 times and activated AOTS 2-3 times so hes just basically left unscratched and i outnumbered him but i still got defeated(this happened before i got hannibal and hanxin but even then i dont what will happen if i face another strong han xin) Spartacus is kinda bad on front unless he activates his shield wall most of the time but he's also a dark horse if left alone i only lost to spartacus one time when my team is f2p and that spartacus activates shield wall90% of the time and inf com 70% of the time on 3 stacks so he can also do a massacre. I mostly face 3 stacks spartacus nowadays i think 4 stacks should be optimal as he too can also be easily killed if the shield wall did not activate and to fully utilize his talent while not much cost added. Caesar and attila is just bad when controlled by the ai even augustus could be on par with caesar. And even though attila has overlord, he's still a glass cannon and he doesn't attack again as much as a cav does so he's kinda a meh in arena. These but my 2 cents only and also im only lvl 24 as of now.

No need to be sorry, I asked for your experience, not to agree with me Of course I am aware of Hannibal+Overlord, it's the only combo I am jealous of IAP players, he's basically a second behemoth or even stronger. I can't really objectively argue against his strength, it's just my experience that I never lost against a solo Hannibal. It's a weird argument but I think the friendly AI just prefers to attack very specific units with certain own units. When I fight against Hannibal, the friendly AI, to my pleasasnt surprise, sends Mithy to fight Hannibal in the first two turns (or decides to use my ArchCom to throw 3 javelins down his throat), causing Hannibal to never survive longer than 4 turns (which is generously estimated in most cases) While when I fight Spartacus, he is often the last or second-to-last unit to die, which means he has survived more than 10 rounds up and accumulated 5k damage until then. Even Belisarius doesn't bother to attack him... Anyway, as I already hinted before, I do have an ArchCom instead of CavCom, and his paramount importance implies that I should expect different results to someone who has decided to go with CavCom.
