Only outburst lvl3, other lvl4, I'm use he with 1VG+1REC+1C, maybe outburst lvl4 gives more chance to VG for charge, but book of tactics gives +15% damage all times, this is better, even book of strategy with +10% damage better. |

Only outburst lvl3, other lvl4, I'm use he with 1VG+1REC+1C, maybe outburst lvl4 gives more chance to VG for charge, but book of tactics gives +15% damage all times, this is better, even book of strategy with +10% damage better. Any general can benefit from the Books. It is better to use those with other gens. |

And his Varangians are the best against the strongest setup - Mounted Archers, including Elephant Archers. Here is El Cid

Mine is very close, actually    But I gave Nordic helmet to Hardrada and Elephant archers are best archers I have at the moment. |

I’d say El CID because he’s counterattack is almost as strong as direct charge
Other gens needs active skill to deliver max damage, what’s not applicable for counterattack
If you sum total damage per mission / map, El CID will be number 1

El Cid is the best f2p general, because he’s a range unit general, and his weapon gives not only +40 archery points, but also +22% dmg. In comparison to Cnut or Basil, El Cid may attack units without being attacked back. That keeps his HP on maximum level few rounds. Melee/Cavarly generals have not full HP already after their first attack. in addition, don’t forget that El Cid has two passive skills for range dmg (+35% in total), and the only one for melee dmg (+15%).
But at the same time, Cnut is the best Defensive General, because of +22% reduced dmg from his weapon and his skill that reduces enemies attack power.

El Cid is more vulnerable in defence , facing really strong opponents
So Cnut should be near to hold the attack and let El Cid shine
