If we're only looking at attack, which is paramount for charge cavalry, then lv10 Templars should be more or less the equivalent of LV15 Cataphracts. That is because number of troops also has an effect on damage. In the scenario you specified, Basil (with his skill active) was able to deal -> 1477 dmg to the left legion (3xcharge), killing one unit completely with 3x lv15 Cataphracts -> 1418 dmg to the left legion (3xcharge), killing one unit completely with 3x lv10 Templars The silver coin cost for lv15 cataphracts is (30+2+2+5+5+10+10+15+15+20+20+25+25+30+30+35)*8= 279*8= 2232 The silver coin cost for lv10 Templars is (30+2+2+5+5+10+10+15+15+20+20)*16= 134*16= 2144 Now we can ask ourselves how like it is to get a fragment for each unit in the territory shop If we look at souls, it would be 279*80= 22,320 for cataphracts and 134*200= 26,800 for Templars. But we get a lot of fragments for cataphracts (more than 40 iirc) for free through various achievements. So economically, we could even say that they break even at lv12 templars/lv15 cataphracts. The probability for triple charge is the product of all charge chances of all units capable of charging in the legion. In this case (lv15 cata and lv10 templar) it is 0.85^3= 61.4% [For Noble cav lv15 this would be 0.65^3= 27.5%] That’s why I strongly recommend to only use Noble Cavalry with high morale (which is pretty easy in Territory if you let Barbarossa stay behind your other cav gens).

Charge chance may be increased by gems or passive general skill, and it’s realistic to have 100% charge permanently. 2. Max lvl extension may change the whole situation. Assuming max lvl increase for 15 -> 18, it may be easier to upgrade templars to 12-13 than Cataphracts to 18.

That’s why I strongly recommend to only use Noble Cavalry with high morale (which is pretty easy in Territory if you let Barbarossa stay behind your other cav gens). This way, you could have 100% charge chance with cataphracts as low as lv10. So, Noble Cav's higher damage at a ~60% chance or less damage at 100%? When they're both at lv15, Cataphract is the clear winner. At other levels, it depends. But from a tactical point of view, a guaranteed event is always better than taking chances .

That’s why I love my Simeon and Henry II . Nevsky helps me a lot with his active as well. At the beginning I would have invested in catas, but now it’s a bit too late and the benefit would be close to none (I’d be more happy spending on IBC). As for now I have Templars lvl3 unlocked and I could bring them to lvl 12 with my medals, but I want to see first how much stronger the new chargers are.

But, until we know all the details of the update (maybe more free cataphract fragments, a buff in stats, new method of acquisition,...), we can only speculate how these facts which we know now might be changed/extended. And even though I personally decided to join team templar, I'm even more team methodologically correct
