so you can view the diamond combination in the game when you open the book in the diamond window it will tell you all the variations/combinations
open, castle, general, item, inlay, Handbook in upper right corner.

there was some stuff posted in new update thread i think when it was kinda new.

All I can say is if gem 2 level higher than required then either level 2 skill or 10% additional unit damage
