rewards repeat every 5 battles (multiply by 10 for grand total) and include:
~32k gold
220 medals
50 souls
5 mithril
5 mercenary orders
5 blueprints
1 gem lv2

I used about 100 small war drums; none in the first 20 stages, and ~40 in the last 10 stages. That's because opponent's troops levels gradually increase from 15 to 20 and there were some tough naval missions close to the very end. Cnut with Dromon lv2 as well as lv1 ships and Navigator gem combos on other generals got me through this but a better Navy (giovanni?) will need less drums.
We start with 6 general spots (iirc) and it goes up to 10 for the last page and the enemy's numbers are always higher than ours, so only the best (apart from maybe one supporter/Baldwin) should be considered.
In my case, they were Timur, Subutai, Bruce, Cnut, Harry, Basil, Nevsky, Li Jing, Alfred, and a situational pick out of Baldwin, Cid, Narses with lv10 weapons, main unit levels reaching from 13 to 16 and mostly lv3 gems (few selected ones at 4).

How did you get through 40? Even my Cnut with full goden items and lvl4 navigator somehow gets overpowered with random enemy troops without even navigator skill? Up to this it wasn't that hard actually, but suddenly this is pure madness?

Up to this it wasn't that hard actually, but suddenly this is pure madness? I think that it heavily depends on the level of (presumably) Varangians. High level Varangians are tanky enough to withstand the pressure without losing legions and can be healed afterwards. |

Had mine at lv16 and I gave Cnut 3 of them and the 10% armor with a green gem. It's also important to "calculate" enemy movement so that not too much of them are going to hit him in one turn. If contact can't be avoided putting generals next to him in order to deny access to our mvp might be smart. |

Lackland's is pretty damn difficult. At this point it feels like beating it is probably limited to pay players. I've been playing since day one and have max templars, conquistadors and modao and it was not easy by any stretch.

I completed only 15 missions so far, but most of the time I had a comfortable advantage at the end of battles without any need to use war drums. Perhaps the second half of this marathon is more difficult.  |

From lvl 40 - 45 naval mission start to ocur, drums are a must in them. Land battles can be done without drums with good manouvre.

Yes I have completed it now, and didn't really need almost any war drums other than 40-45 and 50. Those are really tough.

With VG and NC lvl 10 and IBC lvl17
