Maybe I just use him weird but I've never had a single mobility issue with him and he's usually one of my fairly quick response troops(Genoese crossbowmen, Conquistadors and Tutonics). I find he's better at sieging and taking down other bowmen and defense inf. I also don't play super meta so maybe that's it(though haven't had too many issues with it).
