So I think I’ll handle this again when the term’s over. As it stands though, most of the new units aren’t worth using in almost any capacity except Liaodong Heavy Cavalry, because Li Rusong should actually get spawned in on his unit in campaign and tenkabito. Also, there’s some weird units like the Fire Dragon Artillery, Three-eye Blunderbuss Cavalry and Tiaodang Assault Cavalry. The Fire Dragon has 1-1 range and can counterattack. That still leaves them about as useless as all the other artillery since cavalry are still way better 1-1 range units in basically close to every situation. The chinese mounted teppo units don’t have Maneuvering, so they’re nowhere close to as good as the regular Mounted Teppo, but you can either choose to do a fairly bad AoE attack, or ignore some defense, and you can counterattack with them. Ma Gui could probably do some great enemy phase damage with Tiaodang Assault Cavalry if that unit was more available. What about 8 Banners mechanics? Do the buffs stack? If, for example, 3 units of this kind fight together - does this mean each has 40% damage increase?

They do stack. Not multiplicatively though. I don’t really think this counts for that much since the aura is only 1 range.

The perk at lv3 provides +20% and a 2 hex radius

It doesn’t really differ mechanically from the usual artillery units. Having looked at the Fire Dragon again, it also lacks the bonus damage against cities and the +50% damage taken debuff that all the other artillery units has. Ok, that one’s pure garbage and should never be spawned.

Having looked at the Fire Dragon again, it also lacks the bonus damage against cities and the +50% damage taken debuff that all the other artillery units has. Ok, that one’s pure garbage and should never be spawned. I meant the teppo Shenji, not the artillery one. It's perceived as a great unit currently.

I think that AoE can be pretty useful in conquest on a general with high damage output. I have no idea what Fire Dragon artillery is supposed to be good for except for looking cool. It's a weak and slow melee unit that only stands out because it's under the artillery tab, but it's not good even as artillery.

BTW, I heard that generals get 5% dmg bonus from commanding units of same nationality (all non-Japanese generals are treated as one nation).
