I'm brand new to EW4, I have played WC3 so I understand the mechanics of the game, but any starting advice for a noob?

1) Unlike WC3, you have generals provided to you in campaigns 2) your allies in EW4 are much dumber than in WC3 3) You can take any general and increase his stars using generals with a training (orange) skill 4) The HQ level system doesn't exist here 5) You can unlock princesses (Free generals) by completing conquests fast enough 6) The skill system is different here. See Erich von Manstein's recommendations for generals 7) You can give a general items that can act as extra skills 8) Generals are bought at one academy, accessed from HQ. You use refreshes (which are gained by killing enemies in campaign/conquest) to change the general offering in one of the tiers 9) Generals come in 3 tiers. The higher tiers generally have better generals, but they are also pricey (The top tier requires real money) 10) You can farm for medals easily, and there is no limit on how many you can get without paying real money

You should:
Play the first missions, to get medals for a general. Either:
Dumouriez, tier 1, 575 medals or Sulkowski: Tier 2, 870 medals
Both have the same output against troops, but Sulkowski is strong against forts and Dumouriez is cheap
Use the one you picked to play conquest in 1798 (either as France or Britain) after leveling him up (many guides exist for this) to get the princess Sophia.
Both of those are cavalry since: A) Cavalry are slightly faster, and you want faster units to get the conquest done within the 65 turn limit to get Sophia B) Sophia is artillery, and it helps to have one Artillery and one Cavalry

I recommend doing America 1812 as GB to get Kate since you'll need one naval commander especially for the last campaign in the game

If you cannot find a suggested general replay Coalition first mission to get lots of kills.

GB 1775 is better (easier) for beginners to do fast Are you sure it is not US? For beginners, no. Once you have strong generals, US 1775 is easy, but UK 1775 is where you go with 1-2 untrained gens

Im new too here but i will recommend u to buy 5 emblem at first and buy slots until u have 6 slots. 1. Buy a tier-3 Cavalry General using your emblem, i recommend buy Murat or Lassale 2. Try get a tier-1 Artillery General with a Train skill i mean here an artillery trainer like Kutaisov or Graham so u can regroup him later with princess or another General. Or if u have enough medals try get Scharnost he have artillery trainer skill too but he is on tier-2. 3. Get Princess but only the good one to use her. U can see the guide how to get princess on Training Camp section. On my list, i use Sophia and Kate by now and gave up Fatimah which is i regret it a bit lol. 4. Try to Finish Campaign without SEE GUIDE FIRST. It will make the game more interesting. 5. I dont grind much on EW4 i just get medal from campaing or re-try the campaign who has less than 4 star. But its up to u m8 6. Get Warhorse and Snaredrum also dont forget to buy tent for Conquest and some hard Campaign missions. 7. Dont ever waste your MEDALS to get *Auto Corrected* general like ANDRADE.
GLHF m8!

Well, we had a member who got to the end without paying for anything. It is also possible to live off the medals you get without emblems or grinding. Slots are very nice to have, of course, but not mandatory
