I found anti-air to be disturbing and alien don't do airstrikes so there's no point in building one. So, is it a good idea to replace a city's anti-air with lowest version? So in case it's taken by aliens you can airstrike it better.

But many players might built Rocket Artillery mostly but if you have an income or extra money then you can do it. I hardly use anti air defence I keep it how it is.

The lowest version (AA gun lvl1) costs 50 gold/steel, and I've got some leftover money each turn to use it on a heavily AA cities, like Berlin or Madrid. Wonder if it's a good choice?

I don't know if it's possible to "downgrade" AA in a city. I think the higher rating remains on top of the list regardless of whatever you try to put in there. Like if you got a very good AA, you could replace the pre-existing one if it's on a lower level. But it seems to not work with a higher level AA already in place.

It works. If a city has got AAA/AAM, it's possible to replace it with mere AA guns. If a city has AA guns at high level and u want to downgrade, will have to switch to AAA first then back. But that's a very rare case (doubt there's any) in 1975.

I always replace high level air defense with Lv. 1 AAG or AAA (in 50 and 60) since they're easily dealt with Strategic Bomber and Bomber, respectively.

I find myself rarely ever losing a city in 50 and 60 (after the first failed conquest). When taking a city, I tend to prefer either put in a Supertank which has its own AA or if it's inconvenient to bring along a Supertank, then I wait until I have roughly 2.5-3k gold (sometimes go ahead with less) and take down all of the connections in the airports in the entire region in one turn. It prevents the AI from retaking a city by bombing if they don't own an airport within range. Nuking is a whole another thing, ofc...

In '50 and '60, I only build AA in a newly acquired city with a heavily injured general, to prevent him from dying from air attacks, or missiles. And that's only in city with high chance to get bombed or missiled.
