I thought about this for a while, so street fighting is COMPLETELY inferior to plain fighting?

I thought about this for a while, so street fighting is COMPLETELY inferior to plain fighting? Basically yes, but they can be added together and it is easy to find a city, Street Fighting is still a considerable skill.

Although you generally don't want your generals on your city even in 1975, they might actually be very useful in the beginning stage. Think about the tank generals: you don't want them in the long run, but you do in the short run because their role is to wipe out some of the first few aliens and take as many cities as possible in the beggining. In a similiar way, your street fighting general may be extremely useful (street fighting+plain fighting+artillery barrage=baha!) in defending against some early massive alien waves when you don't have enough income and RAs.
But to be fair, this skill is much more useful in challenges (esp. Hold the ground) and alien campaigns than in conquests.

Patton, I see how Patton could do that Patton only has street fighting, not plain fighting. I'm discussing the value of street fighting for a eye covered artillery general. With: Arty 1: plain fighting+artillery barrage+explosives+supply+Ace forces Arty 2: plain fighting+artillery barrage+explosives+supply+street fighting You can use arty 1 more casually while arty 2 can be extremely useful in the right circumstances.
