I haven't read the thread in full detail so I don't know your situation well, but Patton definitely is a must. The simple reason is, you need two tank generals (at least) in your lineup for a lot of missions, and Patton is the second best tank general there is if we count Manstein out. Yes, you need more artilleries in alien conquest. But in campaign? you definitely need two tank generals ready on your arsenal as you don't get to choose your beginning units and you are on a tight spot from the beginning. As no.2 tank Patton does excellent job. 5 stars and explosives give him fine output (not decent though). Blitzkrieg and ace forces make his survivability superb: you definitely want him to soak up fire for Guderian. If you only play with Guderian you will find him killed very soon and become defenseless to alien attacks without good tanker. Explosives is a another wonderful skill he has, because it adds +18 damage when attacking tower. Urban fighting also sometimes prove useful when you are defending an important city. So, long story short, the most valuable trait he has is survivability. In alien campaigns, offensive prowess is not as important as tanking for tank generals. For this job Guderian alone is not enough; you need another one and the best man for the job is Patton. Do you have the same reason, Erich von Manstein ? Yes. The purpose of both 2nd tank(Patton) and 3rd tank(Rommel/Vatutin) is to let Guderian live longer, thus good survivalability required. But for 2nd tank, it needs to have Explosives and Blitzkrieg for smashing cities and s&l when necessary.

Normal: Goring/one of Rommel&Vatutin (if you don't have Vatutin)/one of Bai C.X.&Konev, which ever you like.

I have the following Generals:
Manstein Zhukov Eisenhower Guderian Patton Govorov
EC 1 Arty Plain 4 Barrage 3 Explosives 3 Supply 3 City Fighting 3
EC 2 Tank
Tide 3 Blitz 3 Explosives 3 Supply 2 Plain 3
Do I need to keep Patton, or would it be better to sell Patton and get someone else?
