The "Americans" did get A LOT of help from the French, but not to the degree that the French and Spanish won the war for them, I think. The French and Spanish really started to help when they saw the chance to steamroll the already bloodied British, the Colonials really took the brunt of the British attack. When the Colonials went on the offence, yes the French were much more involved. The final seige against Cornwallis was mostly French, with the French fleet and attacks and artillery literally grinding down the numbers of the British defenders. I'd say early war the French didn't help much, but late war they were there for their share of the spoils, which to be fair never panned out cuz their navy was only good on the defence lmao

The French supplied 90% of the gun powder and many instructors like Lafayette. They also catched most of the Royal Navy
