Everyone knows our target is to eliminate the enemy unit ASAP, so we can win faster. That's why people choose double +6 attack items all the time, but is it really the best choice?

In here, I'd like to introduce a new concept: Gate of Elimination(GOE)
The meaning GOE is very, very simple, it's just: If you can kill this enemy or not in this hit.

The purpose of attack item, is to kill the enemiy ASAP, and the defense item is to reduce the damage taken.
But what should we do if you cannot kill your enemy in this hit?
Easy, put on the defense item, save some more health for the future combat.
Let's use an example: You are using Golitsyn, facing a random unit. And you know you cannot kill this unit in this hit. Then we should put on: Defense Item, to save more health for next attack, especially units with snare drum/Mass Fire, every health is valuable, because it ignores the health coefficient. Even if you only have 1 health, you still can have max health output.
What if you are 100% sure you can kill this unit? Don't waste your precious health on this unit then, save some for the next combat.

But there's one exception: Asssault Art, to be specific, s&l.
Same situation, but this time you're using Lan: You can s&l Assault Art to secure this elimination, so you can put attack item on now. But if you are 100% sure you can/cannot kill this unit in this hit, also, defense item.

Therefore, the item arrangement should be: If you are: 100% sure that you can/cannot kill this unit: defense item. Not sure, and you don't mond kill him at the next turn: defense item. Not sure, but you would like to s&l to secure this elimination: attack item. In peace, no attacking needed, but lack of health: tent.

I'd say that when unsure, you can roll the dice (or s/l) with an attack item, or play conservative with a defense item. It's a choice with both options justifiable
