I wonder too, because Thailand was NATO-aligned the whole time.
I assume that the reason is because it "represents" the fact that south east Asia was majorly commie area in the Cold War.

Erich von Manstein already explained that EasyTech was taught history by a PE teacher.  btw, US even had a base in Thailand for GI's vacation from the 50s onward, including Vietnam war. You can check a famous Musical plays called "Miss Saigon" for details.
