Claims in military history can be true or untrue. Here is the place to discuss whether we think it is true or false, as well as how insane the claim is. Claim #1: The Battle of Karansbes 1788 - According to this claim, during the Austro-Ottoman War, Austria went to war with itself. The documentation says that the Austrian army split into two and attacked itself, losing 10,000 men. There is absolutely no evidence of the claim.

I forgot to mention that the battle was definitely not on purpose according to sources. They say, the battle was an accident.

I say its MYTH Thus sounds insane. Like losing 10000 mean to friendly fire? I understand there can be friendly fire which results in lost of men but 10,000 is insane and very high.

While this claim has no evidence, the premise itself is quite rational. The claim said that the Austrians had 100,000 men, and it's not impossible for 10% of them to be killed in a single engagement. Take Lutzen for example. It is also worthy of note that the Austrian army weren't comprised solely from Austrians, but with Hungarians, Croats, Slovaks, etc. Thus, it is very possible that a communication mix-up would happen.

I still very skeptical of this claim. Like would't the men realize they were shooting their own army by their uniforms?

If I recall correctly this battle happened at night (so uniforms were probably not easily seen) and happened because a lot of the soldiers were drunk and when they saw cavalry approach the camp they thought it was the Turks because the soldiers at the camp didn't speak the same language as cavalry and thought it was the Turks. Confusion spread and the battle commenced. I think it might have happened but I feel 10,000 men lost is probably an exaggeration. Note everything I just said should be marked citation needed

I heard this on Good Mythical Morning one time and it does sound legit, all though the numbers could be exaggerate like Frederick the Great has stated.
