Cossacks were a tribe/ethnicity in Ukraine that were battle-hardened due to being in the border. So the Russians used them as light cavalry. Weren't they also from Kazakhstan/the Caucasus? I remembered Ukraine because they were mainly there. But yes I think they were from there too. |

Fun Fact of the Day! Sam Houston was a Texan general who fought against Mexico in the Texan Revolution, being the commander who won the Battle of San Jacinto which resulted in Texan independence from Mexico (He also fought in the War of 1812 but thats not really as important). The city of Houston is named after him, which is the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest in the United States. He became Head of State of the Texan Republic and appealed to the American government multiple times for annexation. Eventually, when James K. Polk made Oregon a state, he made Texas a slave state which kept the balance. He became a senator and also governor of Texas, becoming the only American to be governor of two states (He was also governor of Tennessee) as well as the only American governor to also have been a foreign head of state. He was governor of Texas when the Civil War broke out, but refused secession. As a result, he was overthrown and Houston had to flee to the Union. I'm planning on buying an Odachi... really big Japanese sword. Paperwork for buying weapons here is a pain, espescially for firearms so I like having Medieval arms and armour  |
