Brazil 1849 turn 2
Portugal Assumes,
Jean-Luc Picard , that you have not taken Lisbon. We still have 90,000+ men, but I suppose as a secondary NPC which lost all of its closest colonies, we will have to concede defeat. Just leave us our mainland, or we will get somebody to intervene!
Portugal builds 1 ironclad and 1 gunboat, to shine in the burning harbours. Look pretty, as there is no longer a colonial duty.
The Brazilian army of the south is in tatters. Of the 90,000 defenders, it will be assumed 15,000 survived and are ALSO willing to fight. 300,000 new troops are recruited.
In reference to numbers facing opposing force at start of 1849 season: 200,000 facing PBC, 330,000 facing Colombia, 200,000 facing the Platine Republic. 730,000 total.
The Brazilian Heartland is endangered, thus the disportioncate reinforcements. Still, its 200,000 vs 230,000+ Platines.
Brazilian Armies in the south
Commander: Manuel Luís Osório
Defensive forces at Rio de Janeiro: 30,000 men plus 10,000 Portuguese. (assume there is no Portuguese remaining in the north)
Western force at Goiás: 80,000 men
Army of Minas Gerais: 100,000 men.
Marshal Manuel Luís Osório marches with the Army of Minas Gerais to crush the Platine dogs. The last of the Brazilian Cavalry and much of its artillery portions south of the capital are thrust at the outskirts of the city of Sao Paulo.
Rolling for whether all of the enemy troops have disembarked or not. minimum of 4
i6HwLXWqOnly 20,000 troops have landed, or at least are unable to stand with their brothers. Total numbers: 38,400. The Marshal orders a general assault, with the cavalry dipping their lances. Minimum of 7.
Losses are hard, as the first line is cut down. 15,000 men are cut down, for 5,000 Platine losses. Marshal Osório debates with his "colonels" and decides upon a course of action.
The City of Sao Paulo will be Invested. The army and its large amount of slaves will build a partial circumvallation, and trap the Platines, other than by naval reinforcement, which must be regrettably allowed.
Thus dooming the venture eventually1-4 defeat. 5 extra roll 6-7 partial victory 8-12 victory.
Extra roll! with 2,500 less troops (and 800 less Platines) the Gauchos order a final assault. Minimum of 9
Total losses in this round, counting this near victory: 25,000 Brazilians, 10,000 Platines.
HEADING WEST
To maintain the veracity of the southern front against Cisplatina, Dom Pedro knows the PBC must be kept separate. He orders the army to advance on Mato Grosso.
rolling for percentage of Peruvians NOT able to guard Mato Grosso. This is because the PBC is focused on the Amazon.
If we allow a -1, only 129,000 people resist the blow. over 170,000 are going to land on them. Minimum of 6.
28,000 Legionnaires are injured in the greatest Brazilian blow of the war. 12,000 Brazilians are injured as well. With the liberation of Mato Grosso, Brazilian troops can focus on Cisplatina without being outflanked.
188,000 Brazilians Pivot to the north-west, to smash into -180,000 Legionnaires. Minimum of 8.
18,000 PBC losses, 9,000 Brazilian. Tentative numbers.
HEADING NORTH
